I think "snaps" is the best way to get past all the coach speak and really drill down to who the coaches believe are the most critical players on the team.
  • No surprise that Liufau is leading the team in snaps by a large amount after 3 weeks. He's the only LB being relied on to play nearly every defensive snap. The guy is the bonafide alpha through week 3. His emergence has been great to see. He's also just a lot of fun to watch.
  • Watts & DJ Brown are getting a TON of burn (probably more to lack of depth at the position than anything else). I remember back during Watts recruitment when he was a 3 star WR prospect, a lot of prognosticators had him pegged as a guy that was way underrated by the recruiting industry and after several years he's proving those prognosticators correct.
  • Freshman Christian Gray is a nice name to see getting burn; there are some really nice veteran CBs on this team and Gray is competing on the depth chart with those guys and has carved out a nice role
  • On offense Ricco Flores (freshman) clearly emerging as the #3 WR on the team having surpassed veteran former Top 100 prospect Chris Tyree after 3 weeks. Also interesting to see the RB hierarchy forming with Payne getting the 2nd most snaps at RB thus far.
Ran into a character limit so deleted the guys at the bottom with only 1 or 2 snaps. Source at bottom of post to see the rest of the data.

Ramon Henderson with way more snaps than I would’ve guessed. Wouldn’t have guessed Flores Jr over Greathouse either.

Would love to see Burnham and Onye’s snap’s increase and try to keep Cross’s down a bit.

Another interesting factoid: Jack Kiser doesn't have as many defensive snaps as a number of guys on this list but is still leading the team in tackles regardless through 3 games. He's been very efficient

Tackles totals:
1. Jack Kiser, 16
2. Liufau, 15
3. Howard Cross, 15
