Freeman is a fraud. Can’t be a buddy n a coach. Need to be a hard ass and kick ass

O line sux
Rees sux

and Buchner probably lost for season.
It’s Angeli time

and who gives a rats ass? No point getting invested in a crap show. Worst ND team since Faust

Ouch!

Thesk ,
Fortunately, I missed this game, and fortunately I was indeed ! What has become of ND. I just checked all the scores, and I could not believe my eyes. Marshall and a home game ?

Freeman needs to act like a head coach and not a friend. Otherwise there is no respect of authority from coaches or staff. He needs to be firm when mistakes are made. That was the problem with Faust. Freeman should follow the Lou Holtz blueprint of coaching. If you’re a first time head coach , you need to pattern yourself like great coaches like Lou Holtz and Nick Sabin and others.

Freeman would be a fraud if he changed his style. The players would see right through it.The Great Marine corps General Chesty Puller loved his grunts and loved interacting with them. He was a people person like Marcus. And he was as hard as they come. Believe me Marcus will be dead serious and focused all week. You don't have to be a nonplayers coach and screamer like Brian Kelly.

It’s a train wreck the only debate left is if yesterday was the engine or the caboose.

Smart money is on engine!

Ski, I feel your Pain!

After showing up at Ohio St with A Gutsy defensive effort, and excruciating conservative offense, this team and this coaching staff got their collective asses kicked at home yesterday by a decided underdog. Some thoughts and observations.

Our OL play continues to be poor by any standard. Freeman and Rees and Harry need to get this corrected, and I personally think that means position changes. I’ve come around to Echo’s thinking about Fisher, which is damn near heresy on this board. My opinion is that Zeke is a liability and should not be starting, and that Lugg was an average tackle last year, and below average guard this year. So with those opinions in mind, I would love to see a major shake up with Alt and Fisher starting on the left side, and Rocco and Lugg on the right side, with Patterson back at center. I know we’ll never see this, but I hope we see Patterson back at center at a minimum.

Our running backs are out of sync with the OL. Not excusing the fact our OL is missing blocks and assignments, and failing to get much of a push on most plays; BUT, our running backs seem to be running to the planned “hole” rather than seeing developing lanes. Kyren excelled at this, and Price showed this instinct in the Spring game. Not sure any of our three running backs have this instinct.

Rees’ play calling deserves criticism, but I doubt many here would be so critical if Buchner had not missed on a couple sure long TD throws. As much as I love Buchner’s running ability, his Passing has been way below average for a starting QB, much less a starting QB for a top ten team. The two picks were terrible, but part of the cost of playing a QB with limited experience, but missing wide open receivers and his overall accuracy are unacceptable. Not sure the later is fixable.

Three turnovers put a ton of pressure on the defense, and they once again looked worn down by the fourth quarter. Our DL play is way below what I expected, and we are giving opposing QB’s forever to find open receivers. It seems the only time we get pressure is with a safety blitz, which of course brings risk of its own. Our linebackers seem to be a step slow, and Marist seemed to be missing assignments way too frequently. We have really gifted athletic young linebackers seeing limited action, that I hope we see more and more as the season progresses, starting this week!

Our defensive back play has been much better than I expected, and Bracy continues to surprise to the upside. I like the rotation and the fact our young M & M are getting onto the field, and expect this will only increase during the season.

I hate the hype around Freeman’s hire and the storyline that comes with each broadcast and shit like the ESPN special. He hasn’t earned this, he doesn’t deserve this, and I think he would be the first to agree. However, I sure as hell don’t think you judge a head coach based on two games…one a surprisingly close road game against huge odds, and another a shit show at home. The Oklahoma St game counts on his resume, but so many situational variables that I choose to disregard His influence on this game. The facts are he inherited a really depleted receiving group, a depleted and totally inexperienced and questionable QB group, a totally inexperienced running back room, and an OL that was a shambles last year until changes were made and the schedule got super soft. I think he put together a damn good staff, and they are recruiting some damn good players, some of the impact variety we always talk about. After seeing our first two games, I think this is going to be a painful year, with a lot of up and down play as the younger guys start taking over playing time. Freeman will take the brunt of the blame along with Rees, but I think we’ll be a much better team at season’s end, and I think three years from now, Freeman will have finally earned the hype.

Awesome post Telx. How could Tyler have missed Lenzy on that one right b4 the end of the half. He was wide open. That was a sure touchdown. That would put the Irish ahead and fired them up at half time. Tommy is an excellent offensive coordinator. He just needs to evaluate and recruit more accurate quarterbacks.
