Update: Brooks committed to Washington on Monday.
Kentucky forward Keion Brooks Jr. did two things after his junior season: he entered the transfer portal and entered his name in the NBA Draft pool. On Monday, Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported Brooks will withdraw his name from the NBA Draft.
So what's next for the 6-foot-7, 210-pound Brooks? Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports previously reported Brooks was in regular contact with 16 schools including Notre Dame. And Monday, Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win suggested Brooks would end up at one of three schools: Arizona, Notre Dame or Washington.
I must admit, Monday was the first time I'd heard of Kalbrosky, so I don't know how reputable his intel is. As Eric covered Monday in his story with Jack Swarbrick, it's really hard for Notre Dame to take in juniors or seniors via transfer who haven't graduated. I'm hoping to learn more on possibility of Brooks being a realistic option for Notre Dame.
But in the meantime, here's some of the background information on Brooks:
• He was a five-star recruit in the 2019 class out of nearby LaPorte (Ind.) La Lumiere and is originally from Fort Wayne. So obviously proximity is an advantage for Notre Dame.
• He started 33 of Kentucky's 34 games last season. The lone game he missed was due to illness. He finished fourth on the team in scoring with 10.8 ppg and second on the team in rebounding with 4.4 rpg. He had 33 assists, 23 steals, 21 blocks and 44 turnovers as well.
• His game is played inside the arc as he only attempted 30 3s last season and made just 7 of them. He primarily played the 4 with 6-9 Oscar Tshiebwe as the 5. Brooks shot 49.1% from the field.
• The other 15 schools reportedly in contact with Brooks: Ohio State, Maryland, UCLA, Arizona, Washington, Iowa, Florida, Mississippi State, South Carolina, BYU, DePaul, UNLV, Nebraska, Kansas State and Memphis.
In other transfer portal news, I mentioned that Maryland center Qudus Wahab was being floated as a possibility for Notre Dame, though I didn't think that was going to end with him in South Bend. On Monday, Georgetown announced he has rejoined its program. He previously transferred from Georgetown to Maryland prior to last season.
