Notre Dame men's basketball (8-16, 3-10 ACC) looks to build off momentum from last Saturday's win in a home matchup vs. Georgia Tech (10-14, 3-10 ACC) on Wednesday.
This is the second game of the season series after the Irish defeated the Yellow Jackets in overtime 75-68 on Jan. 9.
Freshman point guard Markus Burton, who averages a team-high 16.2 points per game, is expected to serve as the primary scorer for head coach Micah Shrewsberry's offense. Freshman guard Braeden Shrewsberry, Micah's son, scored 25 points in the first game against Georgia Tech and has scored in double figures in six of the last seven games. He has recently been inserted into the starting lineup for J.R. Konieczny.
As a team, ND is shooting 40% from the field, 30% from the 3-point line and 72% from the the free-throw line. Notre Dame's defense proved to be instrumental in the second half against Virginia Tech, where they held the Hokies to just 27 points. Burton had a career-high six steals in the victory.
Notre Dame's team average of 62 points per game ranks No. 346 (out of 351) in Division I this season. The Irish are holding their opponents to 65.8 points per game, which is six points less than Georgia Tech's average of 71.8 points per game. The Yellow Jackets' offense relies on Miles Kelly, Baye Ndongo and Kowacie Reeves Jr, all of whom average at least 10 points per game. Kelly scored 25 points and hit seven 3-pointers against the Irish last month.
Georgia Tech has lost six of its last seven, with its only win coming at home against nationally ranked North Carolina.
