Time to find out if Notre Dame men's basketball will "play like their hair's on fire," as head coach Micah Shrewsberry promised after Monday's 75-58 win over North Dakota. Shrewsberry didn't like the energy his team played with that led to North Dakota grabbing 14 offensive rebounds.

The Irish (4-0) will host Elon (2-2) at 7:30 p.m. EST in Purcell Pavilion.

Elon has victories over Northern Illinois (75-48) and Bluefield (103-66) and losses to North Carolina (90-76) and Gardner-Webb (80-79).

Elon is coached by former Notre Dame player (1991-95) and assistant coach (1998-99) Billy Taylor. The former Lehigh and Ball State head coach took over the Elon program in 2022.

Elon is a good rebounding team, so Shrewsberry's promise will be tested. The Phoenix is ranked No. 19 in Division I in defensive rebounds per game (31.25) and No. 95 in offensive rebounds per game (12.75). The 44 rebounds per game are tied for 20th nationally.

Matthew Van Komen, a 7-foot-4 center, leads Elon in rebounding with eight per game. Sam Sherry, a 6-11 forward, averages seven rebounds per game.

Twin brothers TJ and TK Simpkins lead the Elon offensive attack as guards. TJ, a sophomore who plays off the bench, is averaging a team-high 17 points per game. TK, a junior starter, is averaging 16 points.

Notre Dame will stick with its typical starting lineup: guards Markus Burton, Braeden Shrewsberry and Matt Allocco and forwards Tae Davis and Kebba Njie.
