Mayock out for 2015

Bring back Alex Flanagan please. I miss her walking the sidelines and she was darn good at her job. I never had a problem with Mayock or Tom Hammond or Flutie. I don't think NBC can hire anyone that would please Irish Nation. Since I attend the home games, I DVR the games for future consumption and find ,myself so involved in the actual play that sometimes the announcers are just white noise. My choice for the NBC booth would be Mike Nelson and the Bots from Mystery Science Theater 3000. That would be one wild scene.

What do you guys want? Four hours of pro ND with zero criticism and all comments are sunshine and lollipops?

I hated Mayock ! He doesn't belong doing college football games ! Very negative on ND and always screws up names !!
I would like ND35 and SKIBRO and ARA and Lou Holtz in the booth with Alex Flanagan, on the sidelines ! A dream team!

Charles S. Dutton and Sean Astin do pregame.

What I want for a home game is a someone who is fair, a ND lean (its home) and exciting. Mayock went out of his way to point out every ND miss and anytime it went ND's way would say "I don't know about that....that's petty"....All you need to do is watch about 30 minutes and you can tell he is Anti-ND. Its home for god sakes. I live in GA, SEC, you think I every hear a local game on CBS for UGA where the announcer isn't screaming every time GA runs the ball for more than 3 yards? Yea, that's what I want....a pro, ND guy to do ND home games. Call me crazy.

Personally I liked Mayock and found him very knowledgeable------I don't want a cheerleader announcing games.

It was amazing how quick Mayock could break down a play for fans to understand. He football knowledge will be missed. He was truthful and told fans his opinion.

Flutie just states obvious facts about the game that anybody could come up with.

If you want pro ND then stay away from the radio broadcast. Don Criqui, a Notre Dame alum, is as hard on the Irish as anybody and has no problem letting the audience know when the opponent is taking it to the Irish. On top of that, many times he is late with the call or just wrong on the call. But, when things are right on the field, Don is all in. Just listen to his radio play by play of Jeff S and his game winning TD from BQ against UCLA.

It's amazing how one set of posters dislike him because he has no knowledge and is overly critical of ND and yet at the same time there are posters who like him because of his knowledge of football. It's like they are watching 2 different games on Sat. Simply amazing.

Honestly, I won't miss Mayock. He's a great color guy but seemed to err too far towards ND opponents for my taste.

There were times I wondered if Mayock was watching the same game. He seemed to value hearing his own voice over actually watching what was on the field and commenting on the play. He should have taken some time to learn some of our players names, as well.

Great Post. He wouldn't shut up. Less is more for TV broadcasters.

Bod, there was no way to make sunshine and lollipops out of the Northwestern and Louisville games. The truth had to be told. I would not have any respect for any play by play or analyst who tried to play cheerleader during that mess and act like everything is fine. I see what the real problem is here. First, the board went after Tom Hammonds appearance, like anybody here is an adonis. Second, they went after his delivery, then Pat Haden, then Mayock, and now Flutie. There has been negative remarks about Dan Hicks. It's all a tiresome pattern from fans who should really be pissed about the performance on the field, not what's going on in the booth. The booth guys are not the ones who fumble, bumble, and turnover their way into losses to inferior opponents.

NBC does a terrible job. Espn and fox do a much better job.

I will give you the fact that the product on the field hasn't been great but the whole NBC production has been crappy. Not just the announcers but the whole show.

I was always amazed at the size of Hammond's head. What a blockhead.... total idiot too... It's hard to believe that all these guys announce ND for a season and still mispronounce ND players names....
We should get ND grad Ted Robinson to announce our games. Consummate pro.... he'd even get John McEnroe to show up.... that'd be fun....

Fox Sports does a better job ?

I really like Charles Davis but Gus Johnson gives me a headache.

We could bring in the very best ESPN has to offer and Danielson / Lundquist and Irish fans would still be complaining. Why? Because the very best of ESPN and CBS would still point out all the deficiencies of what is transpiring out on the field , the Irish fans will be upset because of the fumbles and bumbles and take it out on the booth guys. I have heard that song before, only the names have changed on the field, in the coaches box, and in the TV booth. Only Alex has been spared. Focus on what is happening on the field instead of waiting for every mistake uttered from the booth. It will set you free.

I will miss Mayock, I think he did a terrific job, I think its hilarious people thought he was unfairly critical of ND football, especially when ND deserved quite a bit of criticism last year.

Flutie is nowhere near as knowledgeable as Mayock, but hopefully will do a good job

Mayock was extremely knowledgeable, but he lacked charisma. He didn't have much pizzazz. Flutie should bring more personality to the telecast.

As far as people wanting an ND homer, I don't think NBC wants that. Their history (Haden, Mayock, Flutie) suggests that they prefer an analyst who won't be an ND homer. They probably don't want to alienate opposing fans who might tune into the game. Remember, they want to maximize viewership around the country, not just among ND fans.
