Freeman had the team ready and they played well most of the game. They should have won. The coaching staff made a few bad decisions - 10 players, not going for 3 on 1st possession - but overall a good job. He’s still learning and getting better players. I think the program will get better under him.

I think we’re better than a top 10 team—I don’t think there’s any team that’s clearly better than we are, and I think that we can beat every single team on any field as we are not going to have to play a complete team that also has some generational quarterback.

The verdict is still out on this 2023 team as OSU might be one of the best teams in the country and we went toe to toe with them and almost won.
Yes pretender as in they were more a 10-15 team than a top 5 team in both of those years they went to the playoff.
I believe there are stronger indicators of team quality than a team's W-L record in a vacuum though.
