Knute Rockne was killed in a plane crash in Bazaar, Kansas on this date 86 years ago.

Just watched "Knute Rockne, All American" this morning without even realizing it's March 31st. A small part of the plane is upstairs in the Joyce where all the trophies and awards are showcased. I always thought it was icing but aviation experts have taken a long hard look at a wing fail, perhaps caused by weather. I strongly urge any and all Irish fans who plan on attending a home game to take the time to pay respects at Knute and Bonnie's graves located in Highland cemetery in South Bend. It's not that far from campus.

Yes, I've seen that red piece of wreckage at the Joyce Center---an interesting piece of ND history. I've also been to Rockne's grave a couple of times. Sadly, some folks have been chipping off pieces of his headstone as mementos.

I never knew that part of that plane was on display at the JACC. I'll have to check it out during the spring game weekend.

So are the Heisman Trophies, championship trophies, bowl footballs and trophies, and pictures of All Americans. It also includes other sports besides football. And, never ones to be short of a dollar, ND has placed a mini bookstore located upstairs also. I believe the Monogram Club used to be or still is located on the 2nd floor.

The last time I was at the grave site was on a USC game day. The 4th and 9 USC game day. I was surprised to see more than a few USC fans at the grave toasting Knute with a shot of the hard stuff. They were very respectful.

I have seen those also and the mini bookstore. Just have never seen the plane piece or I have forgot it was there. I have not been up there in a number of years.
