I told you I would be back for what should good be a new beginning, but based on recruiting...should come crashing down on all irish fans in 3 -4 years. I must say Kelly has laid a big egg so far...especially losing his top target QB. So we have some (many 3 -stars) this recruiting cycle. Based on Kelly's performance thus far, I see no reason why we should give him the benefit the the doubt like he found some diamonds in the rough. Frankly, this class is average at best even if you are a Cincy or Delaware Valley State fan. I guess he hopes this will be his year so he can cash in as long as he does not pull another Tulsa, USF, Northwestern or Navy out of his caboose.
Should be a solid 9-3 or 8-4 season (if we are lucky based on the track record). We might even eke out a 10-2 season if Zaire stays matures and C. Strong can learn how to keep the rest of the sacrificial lambs healthy.
I see the usual suspects of rose colored glasses fans such as Bodi and his Pom Poms, Argus (+ 8 different aliases), Pennick, Classic Irish, and especially Continual, etc) who are still pronouncing that if you criticize Kelly you are not a fan. Mediocrity seems to be their mantra.
Then their are others which I will not mention so they are no targeted with the maliciousness that the Pom Pom wavers wage with such ignorant disdain that a realistic view of the past glory, recent spiral into play calling insanity and future 6-5 seasons where 3-star recruits are heralded as potential fringe 4-stars leading this tea to absolute irrelevancy is considered progress.
So here we are again. Me, not a fan of the purple face people eater and some of you, Kelly lovers to the end even if it means the absolute end to this fantastic legacy. This is his year. Many of you will come out with some ridiculous excuses when the Kelly Fecies hit the fan. Let me just say this. I am a die hard fan but the excuses must stop. If Kelly does not produce, I don't care if ND recruits Ty Willingham's half-sisters aunt to lead this team. The result won't be that different.
Lets hope Kelly, for just one season, coaches like a champion. No Crist substitutions at the one yard line, no Rees option plays, no 4th down and 2 at our own 40 yard line. It seems he wants to leave the program the way Willingham left it, but maybe, just maybe, he can leave with a decent record so we can recruit a coach that can win.
