Brian Kelly will have his first losing season at Notre Dame no matter how you slice it.We're 2-4 losses to Stanford,Miami,Navy, win against Army (I hope) toss up against VT and most likely a loss to USC. Question is can Kelly turn it around in 2017.I don't think so,this team looks so bad it's not funny.Another question is can ANOTHER COACH turn it around.Don't know,we'll find out.I still don't know how a team with so much talent went so bad so fast.

I don't see more than 4 wins (if lucky!) this season. Utter embarrassment due to the amount of talent in the program. Allegedly, there is tremendous talent on the offensive line, yet we can't run the ball. I know people bash Hiestand, and I am in no position to verify that. I just know that I miss Joe Moore as much as I miss Holtz.

I haven't been able to stand this pu**y offense for 7 years & counting. Yes, I'm old school & want to run it down the defense's throat like the Holtz days. Maybe that isn't possible anymore, but this BS offense has to go.

The '88 defense was the best I ever saw @ ND in my time, and I compare every subsequent defense to that one. ND has been WOEFULLY inept so often on the defensive side of the ball. Sure, there are a few good steaks here & there, but as a whole, I don't expect ND to play very good defense. Manti covered up a LOT of deficiencies in 2012, so I wonder how good that defense really was. Alabama made it look pedestrian AT BEST!

I always thought the ND job needed to be a seasoned coach to know how to handle such pressure, but anymore, NO ONE in that category is interested in coming here. Unfortunately, it may be time to sign young, promising coaches (similar to Mike Sanford or Tom Herman) to creative, short-term contracts to try to hit the jackpot. If it doesn't work in 3-4 years, move on.

Ummm..have you seen VT play??..They will run all over our sorry defense, that's a loss

In your time, maybe.

You should have seen the '66 defense. That one was out of this world. The team gave up only 38 points all year, and 7 of those was by an interception returned for a TD and one of the FGs occurred when the enemy got a short field due to a TO.

For me, thats the ND defense I use as a standard. Don't think we'll ever see one like that again.

You are probably right, but I was just born in 1966!

^^^ unlucky.

Started following ND football in the early 1950s ... and still to this day the 1966 team sticks out for me. Those older will probably say Leahy's 1946-1949 teams were the best. But from a pure defense standpoint, I think it is the 1966 team.

Can still see defense coaches John Ray, Joe Yonto and Paul Shoults of that 1966 team ... they'd really get on the team if they gave up as much as a first down. They expected the defense to be on the field no more than 3 plays at a time.

Couldn't agree more.
Let's just take a window...
1988-1993
88 was the best ...maybe 89 or 90 too if being picky...but the main thing those years had in common
They played tenacious as a group. They swarmed the football. Created havoc and turnovers. Everyone wanted to be the next big highlight.

The 12 season everything clicked, however I believe a little too much credit is given to Teo....
See we had a good NFL ready front three which all year over matched other teams. In essence they ate up blockers to allow our backers and Motta to run free for tackles.

Then they met Bama ... which had a very NFL ready offensive line.

We know the result. They were at times able to handle our 3 man front one on one and allowed a guard to go get a hat on one of the backers.

Regardless we had a nice defense in twelve but certainly miles and miles ..like a thousand miles from today's version.
