Let’s hope we don’t let the committee off the hook

If Alabama, Clemson and ND take care of business and finish in the top 3, it could be an interesting debate for the final spot if it is between Oklahoma and Ohio St.

The eye test says the Sooners, but what the committeed has valued in the past would suggest Ohio St.

Both the Sooners and Buckeyes have equally explosive offensives with maybe Oklahoma having the slight edge. Both have equally bad defenses with the Buckeyes having the edge of having the slightly better one.

Oklahoma’s one loss would be over a 9-4 Texas team on the final play. Ohio State’s one loss would be a beatdown against an average Purdue team. Huge advantage for Oklahoma.

We have seen the past where the committee values wins over bad losses and that is where Ohio St. holds a key advantage. Ohio St. would have two wins better than anything Oklahoma would have. The Buckeyes would have a victory over a top 10 Michigan team and a No. 12 or better Penn State team if they can beat Maryland today. Oklahoma might not have a single victory over a top-15 team this year. Even if West Virginia or Texas finds a way to lose and stay in the top 15 they certainly won’t be ranked higher than Penn St., which was the Buckeyes second best win.

I’m sure it is a debate the committee would rather not have to have either way.
