i wouldn't believed it possible for ND to win only three of the last eleven games played, especially with this year's weak schedule. Kelly is right about one thing, and that is our young guys are getting some invaluable game experience this year, and that will pay dividends next year. That alone is no reason for optimism, but that's the spin Jack and Kelly are selling. Now give me a new coaching staff that will demand aggressive disciplined fundamental football, and this team can win big and often.

It looks real bad Telx. He (that coach) said yesterday that no major adjustments would be made to the coaching staff after the season. How can that be when you're 3-6 and still play an option team and your two toughest opponents of the season? I still believed until I saw Navy push us around like a 90 pound weakling last Saturday. They simply humiliated us last Saturday on National Television by playing keep away the last seven plus minutes. I didn't watch it but I read about it. I had my fill by then!

If Kelly gets humiliated by the team in LA he will be gone. I don't care what board posters here say or what Jack has said. Anyone can coach a team to humiliating losses.

The problem for Kelly is all of these losses were games that were winnable. He didn't get the job done.

Ara, I read the same quote, and simply laughed. He should have said the whole season has been unacceptable and that the coaches, himself included, have failed to put the team in position to win too often, and that a comprehensive evaluation of coaching will be his first priority. The message should have been that this is unacceptable by ND standards, and it won't be tolerated. Instead, we get everything is better than it seems because we've lost six games by a total of 29 points and with a break or two, we could have won each, etc... too slick and too arrogant for my likes by a long shot.

Part of me fells bad for Kelly.. he looks just beaten. I honestly don't think he has anything left in the tank. Hopefully, he and Jack can work something out because I just don't see it getting better next season, he's mentally spent.

Our team is not good enough to humiliate ND and probably even win. The teams will have been beating with the exception of Colorado are not nearly as good as Miami of Navy for example. I think we will be favored and I am hoping for a win. We have been playing better and I would now make this a 60-40 game in our favor.

Beach it depends how many wins we have @ that time if the Irish are competitive. If we magically win the next 2 games then it might be competitive. If we lose one of the next 2 its over. the trojans will curb stomp us

Duke is 3-6 .... they are garbage and they beat us at home ... we shouldn't have just won that game we should've won 50-3 ..... Every garbage team can hang with Kelly coached teams .... coaches have been a handicap that caught up to the players this year

Maybe, Our team has been playing better lately but again I cannot exaggerate how bad Cal and Oregon are. I will check in after Washington. That will tell a lot.

Beach,
This season has been so bad that it is now meaningless. I am just hoping that it is Kellys last
season. I will watch the game, but more as a football fan than a ND fan.

Same here ... but still as a ND fan, but not a Kelly fan!

Substitute Helton for Kelly and we are identical.

ND is much worse because Kelly is in his 7th season and Helton in his 2nd as HC. ND will be 4-8 and not going to a bowl while SC will be 7-5 at worst and will get extra practice time for its young qb and bowl exposure for recruiting. After 7 seasons at ND or SC a bad season should be 8-4 not 4-8. After 7 seasons there is no excuse for lack of depth and no direction.

Agree Norcal... and all the talk about the difficulty presented by the academic demands of ND now seem pretty hollow when you consider we have now lost to Navy and Northwestern and Stanford and Duke, etc...

Here are some stats on the teams we have been beating:

ASU - 124th in Total D, 115th in Scoring D

Colorado - 9th in Total D, 12th in Scoring D

Arizona - 117th in Total D, 117th in Scoring D

Cal - 125th in Total D, 127th in Scoring D

Oregon - 127th in Total D, 125th in Scoring D

One decent defense, the rest t the bottom of CFB. Feel better about you chances now?

Beach, you sound like you're worried that USC will win just enough this season to ensure Helton's return, while believing that a weak schedule accounts for the wins more than coaching.

Yes, you captured my fear perfectly.

I'd bet any amount of money ND would win no more than 1 of those games. Duke is 3-6. NCSt is 4-5. MSU is 2-7. Yea, I think you all beat us rather easily.
