The Irish were 7 and 2 with 4 straight victories including USC, Arizona State, and Michigan State and were ranked #24 and moving up looking for a chance to play in a new years bowl.
They were up against a average Pitt team at Pitt, Tommy Rees threw for 318 yards with two Ints and only 18 for 39 (man I wish the higher ups did not suspend Golson for the year).
TJ Jones had 175 yards receiving and James Omwualu had 1 reception for 23 yards.

*** The Irish blew many chances including a fumble near the goal line and a easy fumble that Prince Shembo or anyone on the defense could have jumped on. It was lying on the ground for at least 5 seconds before a Pitt guy jumped on it. Tuiit also got kicked out for targeting.

*** The Irish should have won that game and been 8 and 2 with a win over BYU the next week 9 and 2 and then they would of played Stanford for a new years bowl game which they lost anyway 20 to 27.
But they could have still won 10 games easy and had a better recruiting season.

*** Notre Dame blew the game because of lack of focus and dumb mistakes (sound familiar)

*** I went off the deep end the next couple of days and BGI348 and NDsince 35 had to talk me off the ledge and back to sanity.

*** I hope Kelly and crew can salvage this season--

The day the music died !

Kelly seemed to lose his hunger after the 2012 season. In '11 and '12 he would crush players for not giving max effort. He was so tough on TJ Jones for whatever reason, but Jones developed and got drafted. Diaco was intense as well. But since '12, ND has slowly morphed into a Big 12/finesse type team.

Not sure about Kelly losing his hunger, but he clearly purposefully toned down his sideline demeanor. On one hand, I like seeing the coach of ND looking calm and controlled, on the other, I sometimes wonder if the players have adopted the same. Harbaugh for example, is an energized over the top full time expression of emotion, and his players react accordingly. Prefer not to see a return of the red faced sideline heart attack in waiting that was Kelly, but would like to see some excitement when the players excel.

Kelly is a good coach not a great coach. the difference between good and great is winning big games. Alabama, clemson, Fla St. if you can not win those games when it counts

I think Brian Kelly calming down his demeanor and being more of a player friendly, and staff friendly coach, has done more to hurt this program, then to help it.

Players were not "playing tight" when Kelly was holding them accountable for everyone to see. In fact, they were playing much more motivated and with much more passion and intensity. They actually started playing, on both sides of the ball, before the middle of the 2nd quarter.

I find it funny that fans are so deplorably soft. Nick Saban absolutely chews kids out in game for taking undisciplined penalties, or not paying attention to detail. A couple weeks ago he went on a minute long tirade, directed towards OC Lane Kiffen on the sideline, of a game that Alabama had in the bag. He holds everyone in his program to an intense level of discipline and he's a master of fuelling the fire, when players lack the ability to do it on their own. His players are straight up terrified of him on Gameday and because of that, they'll do everything in their power not to let him down... Oh, and Alabama has been the top program, both in terms or winning and recruiting, for the past decade. So people need to drop this nonsense about Brian Kelly yelling at people and holding kids accountable, as if it's a negative thing.

Comparing Saban's football acumen to Porky's is beyond preposterous.
At some point it, the bombast, becomes ineffective as the gun powder is wet.
Porky is all wet.
He has no solid footing as his poor in game decisions/coaching have done more damage than any individual players mistakes. Northwestern? Clemson? I could go on and on, but your defense of the indefensible is ridiculous.
Many players, PTB, fans, others.... are sick and tired of his ballistic and ineffective buffoonery. His current handling of Kizer is an embarrassment.
Mr Potato Head is in survival mode.
There's a good chance he doesn't make it....

BK has to be himself and the hell with the national media and the fan base. If he's fiery by nature, then don't change. I think the fan base buy into what the idiots on PTI and ESPN say about BK's sideline demeanor and want him to win and walk around like he's part of the Royal British court. We have all seen Dabo and Saban go crazy but they are not held to the same standard as BK.

Why did you leave out " and stupid"?
Oh, I guess you would want that to change...never mind...

I don't believe he's stupid. I give him more credit than that. He's our HC. There is no super hire than will come in and start winning at an Alabama clip. Has BK ticked me off at times? Heck yes. Has the team played below expectations? Yep. Has the team played at times like they have never practiced? Absolutely. I don't know if ND settled by hiring BK but I don't think there was a successful qualified guy out there who wanted the job as it stands. I just want to enjoy the rest of the season watching DK and this new look defense. I wait too long every off season to deep six 2016 four games in.

Be careful about being too chummy with cgvr. Remember this timeless parable;
Girl and the Snake

A young girl walking along a mountain path to her grandmother's house heard a rustle at her feet. Looking down, she saw a snake, but before she could react, the snake spoke to her.

"I am about to die," he said. "It's too cold for me up here, and I am freezing. There is no food in these mountains, and I am starving. Please put me under your coat and take me with you."

"No," the girl replied. "I know your kind. You are a rattlesnake. And if I pick you up, you will bite me and your bite is poisonous."

"No, no," the snake said. "If you help me, you will be my best friend. I will treat you differently."

The young girl sat down on a rock for a moment to rest and think things over. She looked at the beautiful markings on the snake and she had to admit he was the most beautiful snake she had ever seen.

Suddenly, she said, "I believe you. I will save you. All living things deserve to be treated with kindness."

She then reached over, put the snake gently under her coat and continued toward her grandmother's house.

Within a moment, she felt a sharp pain in her side. The snake had bitten her!

"How could you do this to me?" she cried. "You promised that you would not bite me, and I trusted you!"

"You knew what I was when you picked me up," he hissed as he slithered away.

you left out the thread where Continuously was bitch slapping you and I intervened on your behalf only to then have you turn on me! He had you wetting your pants! Since then he owned you.

Bodie: thank you. cvgr can be rough around the edges but he likes good banter and does not hold grudges. He actually likes the argument and is the type that will have a beer with you after win lose or draw. Ever since I lost my son, I realize some arguments are not worth winning. So I try not to hold grudges or get in a corner. So if you bicker with him and get mad he has a short memory as long as you let it go.

He made a vision of a satanic face on my computer that said it was going to rip my heart out and feed it to me. Of course I was frightened. Wouldn't you be?

Listened to Mike Frank's Thursday Podcast. Interesting thoughts he had on how to win the game and basically going forward. Also, I liked how he said What Kelly should do going forward "if he survives as coach" Interesting how he phrased if he survives

Remember this timeless parable.

"A man who loves Notre Dame football decided to go to a wedding instead of watching their game versus Duke. After the ceremony and 4 shirley temples he passed out. He woke up wearing spike heels and a michigan girl's cheer leading outfit. As he snuck through the hotel lobby wearing bed sheets he vowed to never miss an ND game again." The end.

I do not think we are at the "cannot recover" state with Kelly. Recruiting is his hope. He needs to finish the defensive class with a big impact. The offense is doing ok and has talent. The offensive staff is working well. (If they lose Sanford then that changes everything)
In the off season, should Kelly whiff on recruiting the elite OT the best option is JT. With top defensive reinforcements that can be considered.

If defensive recruiting does not bring in top talent Kelly will not be on the sidelines for opening kickoff in 2018. He would have no defense: it would be eight years without a major post season victory.

I see what your saying but I doubt Purse or cgvr would go to my favorite PUB because they only go to gay bars. (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Projecting again? A guy I used to play golf with was on leave up in 'frisco years ago 60's. He went into a pub with a decent snoot going, ordered a beer and began hitting on the bar maid. She eventually convinced him to go on stage and sing as part of getting her number. He was having a grand time as the folks there egged him on cheering. After a few songs he was back at the bar and up walked Johnny Mathis who said, "You don't know how to sang." (no typo) Pat said, "Yeah, but I can kick your ass." It was at that point he realized that he was in a gay bar.....got the bar maids number and left....

cvgr: its amazing you save this stuff. i cannot remember half the stuff I wrote and when I am wrong I will say why did I write that

Perse is a liar and his "board moderator" routine was/is a testament to who he is... Certain things are worth preserving and in this instance it paid off.....

In that thread he had elevated kelly to NFL GM. Now look at him dumping all over kelly.... Zero substance, occasional good points...duplicitous....

I still say Kelly is a good coach that should have been gone after 5 years. IMO, no coach at ND should last more than 5 years unless they have multiple 10-12 win season. Its nothing against Kelly or any other coach it just that I think its too difficult a job for a coach to last more than 5 years unless you have shown yourself to be exceptional and have built a lot of goodwill.

I think we can be pragmatic about what could potentially happen. meaning, there is nothing you can do if the powers to be keep kelly for another year which I have no problem with. If they decide to move in a different direction I am OK with that. Lets face it Kelly has permitted friendship to get in the way of running the business. i.e. BVG; Also he has failed to win a major bowl game. I still think he is a good coach but these are the things that are hurting him and notre dame. People complain about play calling is not valid.
