Based on the Texas game, it is clear we need to take measure of what this guy brings to the table and rate him for the Texas game and for his overall tenure.

Texas Game – he sucked in all facets. Chalk it up to another South Florida, Tulsa, Louisville, etc He lost us this game. Period. And he gets paid a lot of money. It’s bs

Overall – a good coach, never will be a great one. So everything is relative. It could be Ty, Weis, Davie. It’s an improvement, right?

A very slight improvement but when your institutions goal is to win championships it's quite a mismatch.

Exactly pretend !! It's all for show with NO go... ND fans deserve much better from the administration but as long as the $$$$ rolls in there is no incentive to commit to a serious winning program. It's a head fake. Case in point BVG is still employed after 2 yrs of total ineptitude and pockets a nice cool million in yr 3. What a farce!

I'm not a big fan/supporter of BK, but anyone who feels he is only a slight improvement over Weis or Willingham has already forgotten just how awful things got under those coaches. This program, from top to bottom, is in infinitely better shape (players, facilities, etc) than it was under either one of those two guys. BK just can't seem to find a DC who can articulate to his players how to run his defense and, more importantly, the fundamentals of tackling, pass coverage, and gap assignments.

To the point of the thread, I think Kelly has continued a relatively positive arc for ND Football following the Holtz years. Willingham was awful on every level. Weis showed that ND can still recruit top notch athletes and helped put the Irish back on the map. Kelly has actually built the infrastructure of a program, complete with training tables (yes, it took that long), better facilities, and the best overall recruiting since Holtz. I am hoping that the next coach (whomever and whenever that may be) will be the one to put all the pieces together.

Just MHO.

It's not BK's fault per se ., though he hired BVG ( who us obviously a disaster). We scored 44 and lost ... Are you kidding me? Troubles he to say this but CFB has past by ND. We will never win a National Championship again. Our team lost to a bigger, stronger more talented Texas team tonight. Our defense is pathetic year over year. No pass rush,no physicality at all. ND, my school, talks a good game, but are really about money, not winning. Face value for my tickets to the Duke game $170, going up each year. .... Just sad

Not sure " the institution's goal" is to win championships anymore

After Holtz was fired the administration turned ND into a college football theme park. I mean I'm surprised they didn't put in rides around the campus like at Disneyland.

At the same time I think Kelly is a good coach and considering nobody else wants to coach a program that can't compete on yearly basis to get huge recruits what difference does it make? Kelly has done an amazing job on offense and this is his first year with a legit QB.

yea, but look how events had to develop to get that QB on the field! transfer and injury to start and even then the obvious escaped him!

They recruit near and around the top ten level nearly every yr. See Wisconsin, MSU and Stanford. Where they do end up in the recruiting rankings? If I'm not mistaken Stanford has fairly decent academics... and higher admission standards than ND . It's a coaching them up issue . Plenty of coaches would love to have the ND job. It's still Notre Dame. You can recruit at a near elite level and compete with the big boys if u do it right. It's a big stage and if you win at ND you write your ticket to NFL , ESPN , book deals and speaking fees. It is not a dead end coach killer job. Tired of this false argument that were stuck bc no one else half decent in coaching ranks would take the ND job in their right mind. I call BS on that.

Since Lou was forced out we have seen: Davie, Willingham, O'Leary for a second, Weis and Kelly. All middle tier at best. Big name coaches aren't interested. They want to compete for NC's. Like Urban at Ohio State. ND's next hire will be more of the same.
