Kalon Gervin de-commits

He was looking great in camps also. Hate to lose him. Would have been a coup to steal a Cass Tech kid.

Dont worry. We will have a better season this year. Recruiting will pick up in the fall.

hate to lose this player but things aren't totally bad as our irish could possibly get a verbal from 4 star CB/S Houston Griffith from the Chicago area who is maybe the best DB from the Midwest. lots of CBs coming in to our irish from several insiders that cover other schools. he has recently announced that he will be at irish invasion in june. Griffith and Allen could be the best safety duo that any school brings in for the 2018 class. Allen btw is a man on a mission as he has been tearing it up at several combine camps this spring winning MVPs where ever he goes as he is now going to the nike opening finals in Oregon with two other irish verbals

the impulse commits are always the most tenuous.

And, if a kid says he is closing down recruiting and then is sad that his committed to team stops aggresively recruiting him...huh?

seems he was afraid that academically he could not make it at ND. Which of course is a very valid concern with someone who was not a top student.

Exactly. The booger picker strikes

here's a quote directly from Gervin regarding Michigan's lack of interest (source: mgoblog):

"Early on in his recruitment, being from Cass Tech, most assumed he’d end up staying in-state and playing for the University of Michigan. However, despite offering early, the Wolverines weren’t showing a great deal of interest when it came time for him to make a decision. It looks like that is still the case.

They didn’t hit me up at all,” said Gervin of the in-state Wolverines, following his decision to open things up."

VaTech and ORE seem to be leaders. Harbaugh not interested in recruiting 5'11" DB's.

I m anxious to see what effect the new early signing period will have. It should be even earlier in my opinion.

It is odd but here it is a week later and I still don't know why he decommitted. Frustrating from a fan's perspective but good in the sense his privacy is being respected.

He should have done what Kelly would have and let every media outlet know what a lousy coach and recruiter Kelly was and why he is not coming to ND and how Kelly should have stayed at Grand Valley State.

Decommits this time of the year are usually more about reconsidering what may have been an impulse commit before fully realizing/considering all options. Recruits, any where, will be examining commitment, and in light of their personal perspectives, and prospecting to 'trade up'. Staff type decommits, when they occur, are usually late season or post season type of decommits. It will be interesting to see how the early signing date impacts 'availabilities'.
