On CBS talking about tonight's NFL game between Bears/Packers and what's wrong with QB Rogers . Then he went on to mention the Patriot's success . It was interesting . Simms said the Patriots have about 200 plays and run all of them while other pro teams have about 50 plays . It's a slight exaggeration ,but they do have a lot of different plays .

Do the Patriots really have a lot of great players on both sides of the ball or do they execute their game plan better than most teams in the NFL?

Any possibility of getting BelIchick to coach the Irish ? Just kidding .
Is there a young innovative coach out there that could change ND's fortunes?

The problem is not that a young, innovative coach could coach...it is everything else that goes along with being head coach at Notre Dame that kills coaches and most young guys would get eaten alive.

This^^^^^^ It astounds me that so many people fail to understand this critical aspect of the job.
Remember Kelly talking about not being ready for all the challenges and demands at ND beyond coaching, and that it took him a couple years to fully understand and manage these. Don't see this changing, and don't see ND going for a young HC with limited Head coaching experience.

It's still the coach and the product he puts on the field .Despite all the distractions a head coach at ND has to deal with , he has to win.

The disappointment with B. Kelly . I remember him telling NBC that ND would line up very quickly after each offensive play getting as many plays as possible and that NBC would have to adjust with tv commercials and announcements .

Well after 7 years , Kelly is not that innovative .another thing ,I also point to the 2012 NC championship .The Alabama players knew everything that ND would do offensively and defensively, the blocking assignments ,plays .It seems that Kelly is predictable and not the offensive guru especially on third downs ,struggling in the red zone .

We need something or somebody to light a fire under the football program. But OT looks like Kelly is stuck here.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying and understand Kelly is not doing a great job currently. I do believe the overall talent level is better than previous coaches but that is not amounting to consistent winning. Kelly will be the coach at ND in 2017, he just signed at 5 year contract. Don't think ND would be ready to fork out that kind of money for Kelly, along with his assistants. I do think Kelly needs to show improvement the rest of this year and onto next year to keep his job, obviously.

If it does not change then eventually good bye to notre dame football as a team and school of national interest. There are a lot financial benefits in having a top notch football program and a lot of academic potential also

The ND brand draws students from all over . The early football history and legends made ND its ' brand today .Along with Hesburgh raising the academic standards to make ND a top flight university ,football prominence is important to keep ND in the limelight and I think it is very important to make sure that ND has a very good football program .

Football and academics go hand in hand and can't be separated. I hope the administration sees to us having an excellent team.

Exactly. I do not think the Billionaires I was sitting beside on Saturday would be donating so much money (and lucky for me selling off their extra tickets cheap) if the combination of academics AND Football were not what they are.
