Jurkovec....

Pitiful identification of talent, as well as development. Maybe there is something to recruiting the best portal QB’s from time to time. Props to the Wake Forest coaching staff the last 5 years coaching up Hartman!

College football is kind of pathetic right now, schools in power five conferences have become a sort of minor leagues to the brand names. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m grateful for Hartman but he’s the best ND QB since Jimmy Clausen and he’s a one year rental.

People harp on NIL changing things; but its the Portal that is really doing it.

I'll be honest I was pulling for Buchner and Rees, but after what i've seen happen to the Alabama offense in less than a year, and TB's performance yesterday I'm glad neither is at Notre Dame.

It's no strange coincidence that we've had QB issues since 2010, and it all starts with BK, and it continued with his protege Rees. The pro BK individuals can deny it all they want, but those are facts.

Saban must be thinking he was sold some fools gold.

Moving forward, Freeman is looking like a genius bringing in Hartman, and I couldn't be happier. The future looks brighter with this staff.

Portal is definitely leveling the playing field. The elite talent won't sit on the bench at Bama and UGA to wait their turns, they will transfer where they can play immediately. USF's roster consists of 36 portal guys.

There is some truth in that. Funny that many here were complaining that the portal and NIL would ruin college football as we know it. I myself professed some skepticism about NIL--not for what it was supposed to do, but for how it was actually being used. Now it would appear that the portal may diminish the ability of the Alabamas and UGAs to stockpile 5* talent, and in doing so restore a little bit of parity to CFB. But I don't want to read too much into it quite yet.

Regarding Jurkovec, I watched some of the WVU game and he looked terrible. Some here thought he would be a first-round NFL draft pick. Sadly, he probably doesn't have enough talent to play in the Arena Football League. After watching how well Thomas Castellanos of BC played against FSU, I have to think that BC fans are jumping for joy as to how their QB situation worked out.

Jurkovec, Buchner and Pyne make one sit back and wonder how our former coaching staff could so badly misjudge QB talent. And why we were so bad at developing it.

I will have to say that one guy the staff didn't misidentify was Dante Moore. I watched a good bit of the UCLA/SDSU game a couple of weeks ago, because I wanted to see how Moore played, and I was impressed. He has a great arm and excellent touch. It is easy to see that he could be special. There are still question marks about his mental acumen as a QB--and no question that is a huge part of the position--but he clearly has the physical gifts. He isn't throwing wounded ducks up there like TB and PJ. He can sling it.

I was rooting for Buchner but not Rees.

Crazy how bad Jurkovic, Buchner and Pyne were yesterday.

I never loved Jurk and Pyne so not surprised on those 2. I was wrong on Buchner

2 out of 3 aint bad

Well Golson it’s good to see you say this. I value your street cred and you owning up on Buchner solidified your opinions. I also was a Buchner guy. Just a shame. Good kid.

I agree, this is their biggest test coming up. I want to see what happens to the OL when they get punched in the mouth by OSU's defense. In years past we would see the OL fold like a lawn chair, I'm hoping they fight hard and keep fighting.

I remember how many said he was going to play on Sundays after he left.
BC fans were happy that he left.

This. Biggest question is our O line vs a good team. If we have a running game n pass protection, I’ll be happy

I've got 2 main concerns; one is our DLine pressure. They got pushed around a bit by CMU; the other is our OLine Guards, they also got pushed around by CMU. If we don't shore both of these up, we're in trouble

seems BK’s QB tree is bearing poison fruits.

I’ve always had the impression that if players regress as their careers go on, that’s a tell tale sign that you have a bad position coach. That’s EVERY single QB under Kelly except for Kiser, who ironically , wasn’t even the named starter that year. Who would’ve guessed that when we had a very good QB coach in LaFleur our QB play was pretty good (Kiser). Unfortunately, we also had VanGorder to keep us away from contention.

Why Kelly never seemed to grasp this came across to me as his stubbornness to find up and coming coaches that were hungry(until Freeman). A good CEO surrounds himself with smart people that think differently than he does. They also have strengths that he is lacking in (recruiting). Kelly instead surrounded himself with “yes” men or people who he was familiar with (BVG). And while you can still put out a product that some people want to buy, it’s far from the PRIME stuff that people would pay top dollar for.

This is way off topic, but I always found it more than a little amusing that Kelly finally fired (or more accurately was ordered to fire ) Van Gorder after the NC State game, where the only TD was off a blocked punt.

I never thought of it, but that is a little ironic that he finally keeps a team out of the end zone only to be fired. 😂
