I know he has his own problems with his wife sleeping around, but now Jumbo bans his players, even those over 21 without criminal records, from going to bars? First of all that is unconstitutional and I really think he should ban them from raping and beating on women.

Seriously, would not that make more sense?

An organization's culture starts at the top. Jumbo isn't responsible for every mistake his players make, but he is responsible for the quality of character he recruits, and for how the organization rewards and punishes behavior. I think the way he publicly defended and praised Jamoris won him a popularity prize among immature Undisciplined recruits, and his players seem to believe they can do damn near anything because they are special and untouchable. Changing this culture will require changing the head coach in my opinion.

This crap will continue at FSU as long as Jumbo remains there. He showed his ass when he defended Winston when he raped a girl and Karlos Williams when he beat on his girlfriend. His wife left him, his life is in turmoil and he is a failed human. He should be on suicide watch.

Easy big fella, easy. I'm don't have much positive to say about him but bringing up his wife's actions is pretty childish. Seriously. She might be total garbage. He may also be a horse ass to her but again bring this up makes you look like a child.

De'Andre Johnson was recruited and offered by Notre Dame.

Forever, it's the totality of the process that makes up the culture of a program. Not saying ND doesn't recruit immature or Undisciplined young men, but I am saying most walk away from ND when they are confronted with what will be expected of them if they sign up. FSU doesn't have that problem.

Well stated. Go Irish!

Possibly, but they also might decide they just want to go somewhere else because they like the other place better. There's no way to really establish what you are saying as fact.

For the record, wasn't trying to knock ND in any way. I like ND a lot. I've been to two games at South Bend and absolutely loved it both times. Just responding to the quality of character being recruited comment. There was nothing to indicate either of these players would be a problem. Tons of schools were after them and felt fine about their character.

Ridiculous..... There is no way of screening for future behavior....
Out of curiosity can you name any football players, other than dalvin cook, that have gotten into schools with a "violent rap sheet"? Where and when.....?

It would be interesting to see which players were admitted with known criminal backgrounds and if they continued their ways....

Forever, a lot of us appreciate the fact you and Nole typically post balanced/objective views of ND. Reply didn't suggest anything different. I usually reframe from posting to the FSU related threads that pop up here, as I see no value in commenting on the idiocy of our resident FSU obsessed hater. Just wanted to express my opinion that Organizational culture is something that needs to be cultivated at all levels, and the commitment to same starts at the top. Jumbo may in fact be an excellent football coach, and FSU may in fact be a fine State University, but Jumbo owns the culture and sense of entitlement and the view that players are not held accountable for their actions in and out of the classroom. I am of the opinion that the fastest way to change this culture is to change the head coach.

Someone accused Argus of being childish. Alert the media!!!!!!

Fair enough

FSU is a win at all costs programs. Its a shame Golson goes there now

At least Golson brings a bit of decency to America's most disgusting program. He can only help them on and off the field.

Make them respectful? Never, but when you lose a rapist and gain a ND grad that has to be a plus.

Oh great ... The pseudo lunatic ND fan slobbers all over himself again.

I would say I have never read so much crap but that would finally be the first lie I ever told here. I read pure crap EVERY time you post...... about any subject.

Hey Mo1e, name a CFB program more disrespected than FSU?
Name a ND fan (or any fan for that matter) more disrespected than yourself.

The difference is regarding FSU .... this too shall pass. With you it only gets worse. If that's even possible.

Ok but only because you asked. Prince Shembo was admitted to Notre Dame despite a juvenile record of at least 1) picking up his girlfriend at the time and "tossing her across the room like a rag doll" and body slamming her according to a witness and 2) picking up his desk and tossing it directly at his teacher during class. He was then accused of rape at Notre Dame which resulted in the death of the accuser whether true or not. Then this May he was accused big murdering his then girlfriends dog by kicking it to death.

So.....violent crimes in school, violent crime in college (in my opinion, I realize most ND fans take him at his word) and violent crimes in the pros.

There's nothing innately special about any college's group of meatheads. Meatheads do meathead things and then we have to pretend to be shocked and offended when they do. The ONLY way that ever goes away or at least mostly goes away is if money is taken completely away from athletics....and that isn't happening. We're all stuck with the meatheads.

AND to some small extent the crimes aren't THAT much higher than the average student population at FSU or elsewhere. For every 1000 college males there's 92 violent crimes committed per year according to the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics. You've got 85 Division 1 football players so if they just followed the national average they would commit 7.82 violent crimes per season.

Thank you for this... I also believe we were going to admit Moss until he f'd up again. This is right in line with why argus needs to shut his pie hole...

The real reason for all of the college football crimes is found in this quote by your head coach where he was asked about who was potentially academically ineligible.

""I think we recognized that all of my football players are at-risk - all of them - really. Honestly, I don't know that any of our players would get into the school by themselves right now with the academic standards the way they are. Maybe one or two of our players that are on scholarship," Kelly told the website. "So making sure that with the rigors that we put them in - playing on the road, playing night games, getting home at 4 o'clock in the morning, all of the demands that we place on them relative to the academics and going into an incredibly competitive academic classroom every day - we recognize this is a different group."

I'm sure the same is true across the country. Yet because of money, schools bend over backwards and give them special treatment on admission, "tutoring" and other benefits not given to the typical student. And then everyone has to shake their head with a clucking noise pretending that these spoiled dumbdumbs commit crimes even violent ones.

I don't agree with the accuracy of Kelly's 1 or 2 remark. However, his general point is how it has always been at Notre Dame. We go from Academic All Americans on down. Joe Restic and Ted Burgmeier come to mind as brilliant athletes. We have also had some real academically challenged folks. We are real good at getting at risk guys to class and making them productive. Guys do get shelved if they are f'ing around.
PS.I am guessing that there aren't any players HS grades that wouldn't be better if they weren't playing football. A scholarship is huge payoff for hard work well done....

Ouch, credibility gone. Poof!!!

I assumed so. That's why I was surprised this wasn't bigger news. Kind of like how after OJ got acquitted he very quickly ended up right back into jail and then committed violence while in jail.

According to Wikipedia: Prince Shembo

"In 2009, his senior year of high school, Shembo was suspended[7] for throwing a desk at a teacher who had taken away his cell phone.[8]

During the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Shembo admitted that as a Notre Dame student in 2010, he was accused of sexual battery against Lizzy Seeberg, a female student at nearby Saint Mary's College who later committed suicide, and said that he is innocent of the accusation.[9] Seeberg's father responded by claiming that Notre Dame was negligent in investigating Seeberg's accusation for fear of outing Shembo.[10]

On May 29, 2015, Shembo was arrested by Gwinnett Police after being accused of killing his girlfriend's dog."

"As a true freshman, he saw action in all 13 games in 2010. He was one of six freshmen to make their Irish debut against Purdue, and one of three freshmen to play in every game. He registered 15 tackles on the year, including six solo stops and nine assisted tackles, and had five tackles for loss and four and a half sacks. In 2011, he appeared in 12 games for the Irish, while starting eight contests. He totaled 31 tackles, including three and a half for loss, and also had a pair of sacks. In his junior season in 2012, Shembo set career highs in tackles (51), tackles for loss (10.5), sacks (7.5) and quarterback hurries (12), and earned first team all-independent honours. As a senior, he started all 13 games, totaling 46 tackles, including 5.5 for loss, 5.5 sacks and 17 quarterback hurries."

According to this, while at ND Prince Shembo was accused of sexual battery and the girl committed suicide. Meanwhile, Shembo started and played all 4 years at ND and nothing happened to him regarding the sexual battery accusation. Interesting, very interesting.
