6'5, 235lb, 5 star defensive end Josh Kaindoh released his top 4 today and Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan are his finalists. This comes as surprise given that many thought Maryland would be one of his finalists and possibly even the favourite to land him.

Kaindoh visited Notre Dame for several days over the weekend of the Blue Gold Game and is close friends with Spencer Perry, who he knows well from their time spent playing at IMG Academy together.

After announcing his finalists, a couple 247sports guys, including Steve Wiltfong, changed their CB predictions to ND...

Not getting my hopes up here, but Kaindoh is the composite #1 WDE in the class, the #15 overall prospect and he's a game changer. Landing Kaindoh at WDE in this class to follow up Hayes and Okwara at WDE in the 2016 class would be what elite DE recruiting looks like.

Fingers crossed on this one. Undoubtedly, one of the 3 potentially most important recruits in the 2017 class. Gilmore is doing a really nice job of getting top end DL talent interested in ND. It's such a shame Robert Beal's sister wasn't able to get into school in South Bend.

IIO, thanks as always for, your recruiting insights. Is that the actual reason Beal de-committed? Is it "definite" in concept that he and his sister have to be a package deal? I can understand his desire to go to school with his sister - although I have to laugh as my son and daughter wanted to make sure they were at different schools!

Robert's grandmother lives close to South Bend and the family would have liked the siblings to go to school together if possible. I'm not about to sit here are say that admitting sister would have sealed-the-deal 100%, but from everything I've heard, it would have went a long way towards locking up his commitment.

This is great news. We desperately need these rare top 1% defensive beasts to close the talent gap.

I was listening to a podcast, can't be sure which one it was, and they said that the kid compares to Victor Abiamiri. He had a pretty darn good career at ND. Hopefully Josh will do so as well!

A lot of talk circulating that this could also be a "drama build" by Kaindoh and his camp because everyone had been saying that he was a lock to pick Maryland.

Despite a slew of Crystal Balls heading in ND's direction, there appears to be two theories on this one.

1. Kaindoh wasn't as big on Maryland as most assumed, the top 4 is legitimate and ND and PSU are the front runners.

2. Maryland is indeed where he'll end up and Kaindoh is trolling everyone with his top 4.

Welcome to the modern world of recruiting. For the record, I fully understand why so many people choose simply not to follow it hahha

Absolutely need top DL rushers who can pressure QB . Pass rushers help defensive backs as QBs have to get rid of ball quickly and also the defense with line rushers can really add pressure by blitzing linebackers or defensive backs , presenting a problem for the quarterback . Nothing new here , just repeating why top 5 teams are top 5 teams . Also we need speed . Seems like top teams have a great deal of speed

I believe Gilmore is the most underrated hire of the Kelly regime. He connects with big time talent and develops those 3 star guys into big time players. With all the BVG talk on this board the defensive line coaching hire really flew under the radar. If Gilmore stays the DL play will improve. Between recruiting and development I am not sure there is anyone better suited for ND at Dline coach. Unfortunately it can take 3-4 years to feel the full impact of a coach developing players. Getting a few guys like this can make the transition a lot easier and faster; and hopefully quiet some of the fan base complaints.

such a long way to go wit this recruit. That top 4 can change by next week. I do have some inside info coming from IMG and will release it .....

the ever present cryptic "I have some inside info" post. I hope you do, but am always skeptical

Unless this kid plans on committing soon, I think it's pointless to speculate where he'll end up. As we see with alot of 5 star recruits, it'll probably be a decision on signing day.

Was Beal's sister an athlete too? Regardless it seem that they could have found a spot for her. ESPN has Beal rated in their top 20. I assure you 99% of other colleges would find a spot for her. Notre Dame doesn't sell out though and there's nothing wrong with that. It just stinks when they lose a potential star because they won't do what other schools do every year. Nobody would fault ND either since package deals are so common place in today's college football.

Beal's sister did not have the academic requirements for Notre Dame. The sports fan in me is annoyed by the fact that the school wouldn't let her be part of the package deal, but the educator in me is happy that ND didn't drop it's standards and take another spot (for non athletic purposes) from a kid who worked so hard to get there. I commend them for keeping their standards high, regardless of the situation.

Oh I see now. She doesn't play a sport. Yeah there's nothing that can be done there.

when this kid announces for the terps i feel like i should be done w/ following recruiting. for 1, its a 5* going to maryland and 2 he released a top 4 that doesnt have them in it right before announcing. if we start having fake top whatevers, it will be a new low in recruiting drama.

Guessing Terps. That's where his dad wants him to go. Would not be surprised in the least, however, if this recruitment is far from over.

I like how these kids get blamed for the recruiting drama. There wouldn't be recruiting drama if we got past this fallacy that they are 'students' and not athletes/professionals in a multi billion dollar industry.

I wonder what the true market value would be in a truly free market for a consensus 5 star athlete coming out of HS. My guess is somewhere in the 8 figures easily.

My guy at IMG is hearing Terps . Just spoke to him. He also said that tis kid may change his mind a few times before it's over.

I get the feeling this may be another case of kid wants to go to school A, but Dad wants kid to go to school B and is feeling the pressure. Also, I read somewhere that his dad was at Maryland meeting with the coaches when Kaindoh was at ND. Hate to suspect that the kid's services were being negotiated, but we know deals happen in college football. Long way till February.

congrats to him if Maryland was his decision and not his dads but wish he wouldn't have pulled a dumb stunt by having a fake final four when everybody already knew that Maryland was the team to beat

D_Master, I stopped following recruiting so much over the last couple of years. Just got bored of it. And the Irish, under Coach Kelly, are getting great players who are developing and making the NFL. He knows what he is doing..
