Joel Klatt : College football needs to make USC 'move off' Notre Dame

The SEC definitely wants ND to stay independent and won't do anything that will push ND into a corner. They aren't dumb

Well that’s not true. Those schools will go out of there way to make ND suffer. Florida and Bama do not want anything to do with playing ND unless ND joins the SEC.
Really? Then why has Bama scheduled a home and home with ND? ND and UGA recently had a home and home, Texas A&M,
Also, 31-32 Florida plays Notre Dame.
Home and home. That leaves Irishjohn 0/2.
Don't forget Arkansas, another SEC school on the schedule in the near future. 😂

To those of you saying Notre Dame will join the B1G, you're wrong. The SEC is currently targeting North Carolina and Notre Dame for expansion, that's where Notre Dame will end up. The B1G is going after Florida State and Clemson. Notre Dame will be in the SEC within 5 years

Highly, highly unlikely.

USC has no ND game scheduled after 2026. 11 games scheduled in 2027 but not ND.
ND doesn't have Navy on its schedule past 2026. In fact ND only has 4 games scheduled in 2027. The fact that USC has 11 scheduled tells you that 12th slot is reserved for ND. relax buddy, it will be ok.

The series will certainly continue but be aware that the Pac-12 Conference had a formal agreement with USC to accommodate the schedule dates that USC wanted. The Big Ten has no such agreement with USC. You may see this rivalry moving to September, when the Big Ten needs more quality TV lineups.

True, BIG prefers their OOC games be played in September

The reality is that you have no idea what agreements the Big 10 does or does not have in this regard, Pure speculation.

Honest to God, what is your problem? Do you just sit at your keyboard, festering to pick a childish fight?

The agreement with USC and the Pac-12 was well known. There is no knowledge of a similar agreement with USC and the Big Ten.

Hey Dumbo, "no knowledge of a similar agreement" is not the same as there is "no such agreement."

The BIG has played their OOC games the first 4 weeks of the season for well over a decade now. This is well known. USC is now a member of the BIG, and I highly doubt the BIG will make an exception for the ND game. Expect to be watching ND-USC in September.

I could live with that. but you still need a source for this.

The BUG may make an exception for the tv networks that are paying the bill. Ya know, like NBC.

All of the TV networks, including NBC, will benefit if the ND-USC rivalry is moved to September. There are plenty of good games to chose from during Thanksgiving weekend. If that game is played in September, it would be playing against Ohio State-Kent State and Bama-Troy. The whole world would watch ND-USC.

USC/ND just happens to be an example that's being used right now of the future reality where there are very few, if any out of conference games. It's obviously going to happen, it's just a matter of how long it takes.

And yes, along with that it will result in ND joining a conference. Hate it all you want, it's inevitable.
You'd have to have blinders on not to see this coming

The administration and AD have stated on numerous occasions. 3 things need to be in place for ND to remain independent.

1. Access to playoff/national championship - check
2. NBC - check
3. Scheduling - check (ND will always get games with top tier programs. It's a ratings bonanza)
Best post in the thread. Still.

I think it's gonna become rotational at best. Looking at their schedule they are getting no favors from the B1G. They will want a softer OOC game. Watch.

Not in order. 2024 - LSU,ND, UCLA, Mich, Wisc, PSU, UW Rutgers, Maryland, Utah St, Neb, Minn 2025- GA South, NW, ILL, Neb, Ole Miss, ND, Oreg,Iowa, Mich, MSU, UCLA, Purdue 2026- ND, Wisc, Ole Miss, PSU, Ohio St, Oreg, UW, UCLA, Fresno, Ind, Rutgers, Maryland

IMO, USC will not drop the annual game with Notre Dame. "Watch."

That may be true. But telling ND to move USC to September is like telling the southwestern US states to solve their water crisis by drawing more water from the Colorado River. We have endless options for great opponents in September. Our challenge is to get quality teams on the schedule in the 2nd half of the season when conference rivalries are in full swing. You can bet our athletic director is working hard to keep USC in October at the earliest.

Our biggest tv ratings of this era were in games played @SC. When we were competing for the playoff it finished the year in the top 10 ratings.

The Big Ten is not "telling" ND anything. What has happened is that USC and UCLA came arunning to join the Big Ten when it became obvious that the Big Ten TV revenue would dwarf Pac-12 TV payouts. Thus USC was not in a position demand any type of special scheduling conditions prior to jumping to the Big Ten and I doubt that any were granted.

For decades the Big Ten has established the conference schedule first, then each team fills in its own OOC schedule on the remaining available dates. I just don't think the Big Ten would make an exception to that policy to accommodate a newcomer. If they did, it appears to be Top Secret whereas the Pac-12/USC/ND deal was a widely known formal and public agreement.
