Currently an analyst at Illinois. I'd love to see ND bring him in as an assistant. I've always had the gut feeling Golden is just passing through. That he either wants to be a HC again or go back to the NFL where you don't have to recruit.

Do you mean as a DC? He hasn’t been a DC before according to Wikipedia.

I like what Golden is getting out of the LB’s and view Freeman as the architect of the defense. I’d guess that Golden does want to be a head coach again.

Edit: He was DC. My bad

I don't understand the criticism of Golden other than the last two plays. Most teams would be very happy to stifle anOSU through the first three quarters. In the first 75% of the game their entire offense was from one busted play with obvious holding.

And let's be honest; you can't drop easy interceptions that would have, should have, ended the game. It's not on the DC when the players failed to execute on the 40 yard gain or the dropped INT

Agree. Only complaint is the front 4 not being able to apply pressure and the LB blitzes rarely get home, leaving the secondary vulnerable. It seems every time another team brings 5/6 guys, they get pressure. It’s bizarre

he doesn't recruit at a time when ND needs recruiters more than ever

This makes sense, but look at all the de recruits they are pulling. They obviously know it's a need

Agreed. Other than the busted run (which Watts misplayed) and the 10 guys (no excuse), his defense was stout.

I do think he needs to blitz others than Marist as he gets there 1/100 times

yea because there isn't 85 scholarship players on a roster the job is done after recruiting 1 or 2. And Johnson at the high P4 level is mid.
Lol. Enjoy getting you exposed. They are top 50. Elite. Yet you dismissed both of these in previous threads when they committed. You won’t acknowledge that MF is getting more of the top 125 than BK did

They should move Devyn Ford to LB part time. He can be the modern day Frank Stams. If I recall he is good on special teams tackles. I bet he could get to the QB in time.

My only complaint, and it is a big one…. Almost every time, pretty much every time in close games we take an offensive lead late, defense gives up a critical score

Marshall, Stanford, Ohio state really twice but none as bad as last Saturday, heck even usc, and nc state this year

Defense needs to step up at the end of close games, would be their first time under golden heck maybe even with freeman, d struggled late in games under freeman too in 21

Defense gives up 17 to Ohio State, offense scores 14, and then you read this garbage.

I think that Golden boy should be criticized where anOSU seemed to run the same play on all of those 3rd and a 4th down play. It was always an inside route at the sticks and always worked.

Tell the offense to control the football with 3:30 remaining, and we are not having this conversation.

This is stupid. In this case it wasn’t the defense’ fault. They gave the offense the ball back with 4 mins and 10 secs left, after stopping OSU on downs. Held them to 10 points at that time .

Needed to get 3 first downs to guarantee OSU has to use their time outs. Game over. They get first down on first play, get another first down on second play. Then only use up another minute because they ran that mesh play and then passed on second down.

This was on Parker ….3 running plays after two first downs and we are done

And tell the offense to not have zero at halftime and to score more than 14 points. We could sling dirt all day.
We just are not that good. If we were good enough to count on gaining enough yards to burn off 4:10 or score a td then we would have had a lot more than 14 points.

I'm not slinging dirt, just pointing out what happened. Hell, there are many things that happen in a game that will clearly influence the morning after narrative.
