An interesting article about Jaylen Sneed was posted today on The Athletic by Pete Sampson. Sounds like his mother has been very big on academics all his life, and that was a big selling point for her about Notre Dame. Confirms the old adage that when you recruit a kid, you are also recruiting his mother.
I didn't know that in high school Sneed played quarterback, running back, receiver, defensive end, linebacker, cornerback and safety. Also did track in HS. His mother taught him how to throw the discus, of all things. He grew up in Hilton Head, SC, but didn't want to go to Clemson because it was too close to home. Ended up at ND even though his father is apparently a huge fan of Georgia. Reading the story, it is pretty clear he ended up at ND because of the effort and persistence of Marcus Freeman. He sounds like he could be a real difference maker on defense, though it might be tough for him to get on the field this year. He weighed 198 lbs. when he got to ND, though Balis now has him up to 210. Another JOK in the making? With Pryor and Moala gone, it is not inconceivable he could end up No. 2 on the depth chart at Rover, behind Jack Kiser.
