Your question asked whether ND's academic reputation was "garbage." It was not "garbage", but it was nowhere what it is today. As I stated, it has steadily improved over the years---evidently much to your chagrin. Now it's your turn to answer me a simple question: where did you go to college?

See twalsh's post above. He stated it rather eloquently.
Garbage, dull dome, etc...

What reputation are speaking of. ?

Because let me tell you this,,,

Facilities, and I'm talking about faculty here with student body have all increased. Is that your definition of standards?

I'm not being sarcastic here but I'd love to know the reason

My point is that Notre Dame had a fine reputation before drawing such a hard line in the sand.

Why no jucos? The possibility is not existent. Worried they can't be up to speed? So instead of admissions finding out if they would or would not fall behind and or can handle ND's work level..they just say no thanks altogether.

I'm not suggesting they let everyone in

But it's safe to say they are much less flexible so to speak today than yester year.

The whole point is that IMO they could be more flexible and still be of prestigious status.

That same shine on the dome would remain even if they allowed Jucos, or even lowered it's standard just a bit.

Sorry, but I don't want my alma mater lowering their academic standards. Despite all your protestations and whining, ND is primarily an academic institution. You just don't get it and never will. Maybe you would be better off supporting Alabama, Ohio State, or your own alma mater.[/QUOTE]

You asked me to answer your simple question, and I did. Yet, you still won't answer my simple question: where did you go to college? It could explain the apparent disconnect.

Your first point is simply incorrect, unless you are talking reputation as a football school. Or you are using the term "fine" very loosely.

The second point is correct, as long as yesteryear means prior to the mid 1950s.

The third point is subject to discussion and opinion. The people that count are comfortable with where the balance now lies.

Balancd?

Where in lies your definition of balanced?

Would you say the football is balancing the education?

If you are talking mirroring then no way...if you are talking a balancing scale then even less so.

Don't misinterpret, I am NOT one of the people that counts. That said, I have no issues with the way we operate our athletic department, and the balance we we strive to maintain between being a scholarship athlete and being a real student who succeeds. But they don't care what I think.
