Jack Nolan just said

"I don't care if Notre Dame ever wins another national championship".

Oh, Oh! There's no denying that Nolan is close friends with Kelly. He's the moderator of "Inside ND Football". I wonder is he knows that Jack S has had enough of Kelly's incompetence, and has shown him the door.

Put it in context. He said if ND has to lower it's academic standards to win a NC. Co-hosts Reggie Brooks and former Irish player Rod West both agreed.

Then fans/coaches, etc. need to stop talking about winning national championships. I.e. Jack $warbrick. ND can't be Yale Monday through Friday and Bama on Saturday. It's impossible. But the minute Jack admits they're going the academic route and 8-4 is the norm the stadium will be half empty in a few years.

Well, you can take a poll of current and former players and get their take on it. I already know that Reggie Brooks and Allen Pinkett along with Rod West all believe the academic standards should stay as is. That's the trick of coaching and playing at ND. Winning a NC while winning the graduation rate trophy. Everybody understands that going in.

Why not, at this point? Maybe there is a good kid out there in an average school system and is willing to work hard in the classroom. ND has allowed Kelly to drag their great name through the mud since day one. Blocking some kids from a chance, if they are willing to go to class full-time, sounds a bit racist.

Shembo, Sullivan, Floyd, Manti, Golson, the academic 4, Redfield, guns, and weed. ND has been in the news it seems yearly for something embarrassing. At this point they might as well lower academic restrictions. It's pathetic that we see guys in the police blotter and still losing games at an historic rate. Other schools have half the trouble and win like a football factory.

When Brooks and West were at ND Lou Holtz was getting players prop 48 kids like Tony Rice and Chris Zurich that would probably not get into ND today I think it's a bit hypocritical. Lou was run out of town and we've had crap teams ever since. If ND wants to win the all academic team every year it's their right and I'll keep my cash until or if ND wants to play big boy fb again. But, they need to stop this " we play for championship s" talk. It's bull$@#t

More excuses.

Always the excuse.

Forever the excuse.

Let's get a coach who finds a way ....

Instead of the coach who finds the excuse.

Either find the guy...or lower admissions. But quit ****ing making excuses about it.

Chris Z. Was not a prop 48. I ask Chris during a luncheon and he said Absolutely not. The only 2 prop 48's were Rice and Foley.

this is pathetic. ND is good enough to beat every team on the schedule. The coach sucks period. He is clueless and his staff is worse.

BK is not making the academic excuse. Fans are.
Well I only ever heard we shop from a different aisle from one Brian Kelly.

Now if that's not an excuse...then hes trying to say well we are only allowed to get certain kids...

So let's review,

Either it's an excuse or a ridiculous dumb ass insult to those very people who are in the different aisle and to the ones who aren't.

So if you're in that aisle you won't be a game changing incredible player ... and if you're not in the aisle it's because you're too stupid.

Another way to take this ...

Admissions are restricting the players we can select vs. the other schools who are allowing everyone in. Translation..EXCUSE

As I said...either lower standards or get a coach wanting results instead of excuses.

But please, for the love of god, quit making excuses about it. It's pathetic.

This is bs. First of all ND is not one of the top rated schools. Use any survey vary ctiteria. We are down the list. Even Michigan beats us out I. Most surveys. So the Admin needs to stop the charade and focus on what put the school on the map and the golden goose.___. Football

What academic standards? The one that let in Michael Floyd with a 900 SAT score?

So many of Notre Dame's championship teams including the last one were defined by the strength of the defensive front line. I cannot believe that DL players cannot be recruited at a higher level then is currently the case. Are they naturally inferior students? I don't buy that. The emphasis on recruiting the D line has tapered off since Diaco left. That points to the head coach, pure and simple. This roster is full of ranked recruits....but not on the D line...year after year under Kelly...that hole exists.

Yeah, Notre Dame is one of the top rated schools. We are the # 15 ranked school in the nation in this year's US News & World Report ratings. Michigan is #27. Maybe you should take some time to learn what Notre Dame is really about.

I don't disagree....but please let Kelly know his excuses have worn way thin. ❕❕❕

Maybe you should learn to read more than one source. We flat out are above average in many reports. Anyone who says something that is not positive about ND gets a bs reply from you. Well you are gonna be real busy cause as long as Kelly is around -- we suck. And our academics are very good, not top echelon

Like I said, you need to learn what ND is all about. ND is one of the top schools in the country. It is almost universally recognized as such. Amazing that a so-called ND fan would feel the need to denigrate ND's academic reputation.

The US News and World Report rankings are the most widely acknowledged and regarded in this country. In fact, many top schools cite their ranking in this source in their advertising. I'm frankly shocked how anyone could be unaware of it. Forbes has ND ranked #13, but US News and World Report is more widely recognized.

Yep...and guess what....

That same shine on the dome would remain even if they allowed Jucos, or even lowered it's standard just a bit.

What kills me is these elitist holier than thou thinking people will continue right on thinking how dare we.....

One question.

Was Notre Dame's reputation shit before tightening up restrictions?

Hilariously **** no

Correct. The only Prop 48s in football and basketball were recruited as an "experiment" in the incoming class of 1986. None before that, none after that. The only reason that anyone is even aware of that is that one of them ended up being Tony Rice. I believe that Keith Robinson was the basketball Prop 48. So the idea that "we let in Prop 48s" in the Holtz era is total hyperbole. We let two of them in in one recruiting class.

Sorry, but I don't want my alma mater lowering their academic standards. Despite all your protestations and whining, ND is primarily an academic institution. You just don't get it and never will. Maybe you would be better off supporting Alabama, Ohio State, or your own alma mater.

It wasn't LaPhonso Ellis? I can't recall.

If you read the criteria that different rating organizations use, you would take the USN&WR rankings as the most legit, when it's academics that you are trying to rank.

I am pretty sure it was Robinson. Fonz didn't come to ND until 89 or 90.

He was a classmate of mine, so he started in 1988. But I couldn't recall whether he was prop 48 or not. You may be right about Robinson.

So, if an inner city or middle of nowhere kid gets good grades and has qualifying test scores but his high school does not offer all the classes required by N.D. he should not be given an opportunity because that would be lowering the academic standards?

ND is widely recognized for its academics and its Business school is one of the very best in the nation. So anyone claiming otherwise is either lying or a fool.

And I do agree given the choice between lowering standards and winning another NC I choose never winning one again.

BUT as has been proven you can contend for a NC and have high academic standards. Stanford has come close several times to playing for the NC and we have. Its a lot harder and takes better coaching and so on but it can be done.

Kelly clearly has peaked; time to move on.

We have the talent to contend; but the coaching staff has frankly let the players down.

Every high school offers the required core courses. It's a question of whether a kid takes those courses.

J. Nolan is a duffus. He is a big ego absolute duffus that has no clue what a good football coach is.

His kisses BK ass at every opportunity. That inside edition show he does is horrible. The only good part of it is when. They do the quick question and answer thing with a player each week.

So you cherry pick my message and avoid the question.

Was Notre Dame's reputation garbage before they tightened their standards.?

Yes or no.

The question is irrelevant----it implies that strict academic standards preclude the program from being successful. The question implies that ND's struggles on the field are a result of tightened academic standards, and further suggests that loosening academic standards is a panacea for ND's current problems. One need only look to Stanford as a recent example (other than this season) of both a strong academic and athletic program. The fact is that ND's academic reputation has been improving steadily over the years, and I'd like to keep it that way. Obviously, you couldn't care less about ND as an academic institution and only see it as a football program. Again, why don't you root for your alma mater (whatever school it may be)? You would be much happier.

Classic Irish...it's a simple question...

Was Notre Dame's reputation bad prior to tightening restrictions?

Yes or no

Garbage? No. But pre-Hesburgh ND did not have remotely the academic reputation or recognized national academic standing that it has now. And while standards may have ebbed and flowed in a fairly tight range since he came to ND, Hesburgh's arrival marks the onset of the overall concept of how we still run our athletic department, both philosophically and in practice, today.

Your question asked whether ND's academic reputation was "garbage." It was not "garbage", but it was nowhere what it is today. As I stated, it has steadily improved over the years---evidently much to your chagrin. Now it's your turn to answer me a simple question: where did you go to college?

See twalsh's post above. He stated it rather eloquently.
