There has never been a better opportunity in the last 20 years..it’s not our best team in that time frame by any means but the competition gap has closed.
If Riley can be that 1st round talents some pegged him as, this team should win it all. We won’t be able to rely on the running game and he will be needed to make big time throws
No idea until they play a team that is an actual top 5 team.
To this point, Notre Dame has zero signature wins.

Define " signature " win. Are there clearly 5 top 5 teams ? I don't think so. Just because of rankings ? I watch a lot of football. ND is easily one of the best teams I've seen. I have not seen any other team that I would definitively say is better. No team stands out this year as clearly better than everyone else. I believe there are at least 6 to 8 teams that could win the whole thing. It's wide open.
I think this team is easily the deepest and most talented in 20 years across the board. ND has never had this quality of depth. They would crush the 2012 team.

I disagree. I think that this is the best team in the last 20 years. Fastest team speed on defense, balanced talent on offense, and the best overall coaching (if not, best head coach, certainly best coordinators/head coach combo).
For sure. Just look at the linebackers and secondary, no comparison. You had Manti but Fox and Calabrese way to slow to crack this lineup. Same on offense. Who on the 2012 offense starts on the current team ? Martin, Stanley and Eifert and that's it.
Riddick, Cave, Watt, Tuitt, Nix, Brindza, Koyack, Farley, Day, etc., etc, lots of guys on both sides of the ball
This is accurate, this team has played 1 ranked team, Army, and lost to NIU. I think there are 3-4 teams that were better in the last 20 years.
No doubt there have been upgrades in talent among the linebackers and defensive backs, but I think it is pretty obvious that our receivers are nowhere near as good as we were used to just a few years ago, and I think our kicking game has really turned into a liability (I'm hoping Jeter finds his mojo during the break before the playoffs.) Finally, our defense has been hit hard by injuries and defections. We expect Cross and KVA back, but we'll still be short five important players.
My feeling with ND is we always seem to be a day late and a dollar short. I really think this team would have had the same shot Michigan did last year, but I don't see us holding up for four playoff games.
This team hasn't been tested, one of the softer schedules in recent years, comparable to 2021. depending where they are seeded, I could have concerns from round 2 on from the offensive side of the ball. The defense will keep ND in the game, but we may need the offense to step up in a big way at some point, and that concerns me.
This is a Notre Dame fan board. What is wrong with a "homer take"? We are not CFB show talking heads trying to predict what will actually happen, we are Notre Dame fans who are hoping the Irish can bring home the trophy. Will it happen? I don't know, but the season has demonstrated there is no team without flaws, so I think we have as good a shot as anyone. You want to keep arguing why ND will not win; most of us here are hoping ND will win.
I think he was just saying we don't have good WRs, right? I don't even agree with that. The transfers have been good. What we lack is a good passing QB. That's our main problem in the passing game. And we're going to need more portal WRs, which I guess is less than ideal. And we need to start hitting on HS WR recruits that actually pan out.
I wasn't critiquing HDK's post, I was commenting upon chaseball's remark that he doesn't like homer takes on ND's chances.
I don't disagree that our WR recruiting has been less than stellar, which is why we may need to hit the portal again. I had hoped Cam Williams might turn out to be a stud, but he never saw the field as I recall. But he is only a freshman, so he has a years ahead of him to develop.
Texas A&M, Louisville, Navy and Army were all top 25 teams when they played the Irish.
Texas am is ranked 26th. Louisville 27th

Like I say with recruiting the 32nd ranked player is a 5star. The 33rd a 4 star. There really is no difference

The top 42 on this defense will have much more than 10 and will have more impact guys. Defense is much more talented now

Memphis is ranked 25 Navy beat them by double digits. Gtech beat Miami & lost in 8 ots to Georgia. Lville 3 losses were 1 score games to 3 top 10 teams and they crushed Clemson. The top 25 is subjective no one believes Memphis & UNLV are better than Tech, A&M or Louisville.
