Is the current roster better than last season

Odd take. Really odd.
How so? Who was the Head football coach on both signing days?

Who did the players sign on the dotted line to play for?

Why didnt any pkayer leave to play for Kelly?

To say it was a coaches class who wasnt even there on signing day is a very very odd take

Yes he gets the credit. The D class was very good and Kelly left in November. Players had plenty of time to go play for Kelly if you really think it was his class. They could have decommitted and went to play anywhere.

2 of the offensive guys committed after Kelly left, Schrauth and Payne, 2 guys who do get time this year. Schrauth probably starts

Yes he gets the credit. Morrison was our best frosh last year, what side of the ball was he?

Sneed wasnt even offered before MF. How is that possible
You said the 21 class, he wasn’t here until that class signed

Honestly if you think recruiting only happens 2 weeks before signing day you’d be right… class is typically done by the time freeman was hired

I’m a loser and bored so i compared the 2022 vs 2023 roster(s). I think this year’s team is considerably better on paper. Agree ? Disagree?
Agree that team is better. Don’t agree that u r a loser. We will win it all this year

He landed the D guys, got 2 offensive commits and kept the others committed

22, 23 and 24 was obviously what I meant. You knew that
Actually I didn’t since 2024 isn’t done but 2011-2013 will be very similar to 2022-2024 most likely.

I think we’re set up real well to have a great 2023 season but portal qb will probably be needed for 2024.

The point is we are nearly as good if you added a couple 5 star DL kids over the past 4 years. We suck at DL recruiting and have for the past like 5 years. It’s possible Keeley stuck if we hadn’t hired Al Washington. If freeman wants to cement his legacy he will hire the best DL coach in America that he can get and that’s the most important position I would argue outside QB.
Massive assumption, Price coming off an ACL and GP with 0 action. Diggs/Estime was a great 1-2 punch with different running styles that complimented each other. You have no idea if these two can fill those shoes this early in their career. Luckily, RB is one of the easiest positions to pick up. But losing your starting RB doesn’t make the room better.

People don’t realize Joseph didn’t even play much in the games he suited up
For later on because he was injured… when he was in, Joseph’s played well when in but he only played about half our defensive plays. He want great, but he was our best safety by far last year.
Golson told us he’d run a 4.5 and go in the first rounds! 😂

He was not going to start this year…. Price love gibrayne > diggs … possibly not even close if price is healthy

Why would I say 21 when MF wasnt even on the staff?

11 - 271.38 89.96 avg
22 - 275.44 91.82 avg

Big adv to 22

12 - 248.21 91.21 avg
23 - 272.79 91.78 avg

Pretty big adv to 23

13 - 284.77 92.30 avg
24 - not finished

Like I said, this will be the best 3 year strwtch since the Weis days. Thank you MF

Definitely yes.

For starters, our Head Coach now has experience. I coached my 11yr old boy's soccer team this year and I know nothing about soccer, running practices, game substitutions etc. Here we are 7 games in and wow I sure wish I knew 7 games ago what I know now. Freeman knows football, but he never lead a team before last year. I think we see the most improvement from him.

Major upgrade at QB. WR room is upgraded (I think Tyree has a breakout year), OL stronger and older. RB depth better, starter another year in the program. Team should average 35ppg easy.

I think the defense takes a small step back due to the DL. And I think Special Teams takes a small step back too.

We win 3 of 3 in the big games and finish 12-0 (OSU is taking a step back, Snead will spy Caleb Williams, ND and Hartman own ACC/Clemson). We win the first round of the playoffs and get smoked by Georgia in the title game. Recruiting improves. Our biggest concern now is when does OSU come for Marcus since Day floundered around another year and Harbaugh whooped him again
Is Diggs, Love, Price, GP better than GP, Love and Price? Do the math
By the end of this season... Diggs will not be missed...

Absolutely. The offense should be much better. QB and WRs were huge question marks all year. It was Mayer or bust. Passing game should dramatically improve which will only benefit the run game.

As for defense, the only guys I wish we had coming back are Jayson and Foskey. But if the young guys step up and match or exceed production, then this defense should be fine. Think they have the potential to be very good but not yet elite. ND needs more talent at d-line and safety positions. I don't think the guys we have are bad. Just not guys who move the needle. At least not yet anyway.
In cfb today nobody really has an elite defense collectively.
Elite players here and there but points will get scored. ( we never scored points in huge games)
Just look at the Bama teams and Clemson teams over the last decade. They had some real studs on defense but they also got in scoring fests. 45-41 type games happen. Hell the Citadel was tied or led Bama 10-10 or 10-7...

The point is scoring is going to happen...if you go for it. Playing offense afraid of failure (our MO) under Brian Kelly got us exactly embarrassed in the top major bowl games or playoff.

That said you need some studs littered throughout the lineup on D...sometimes it's just making an elite play at the biggest moment to secure a 42-38 win.
A collective elite defensive unit in CFB today... that ship has sailed.

But....

It's a new day.

We now have a QB who wants the big chunk yardage plays. We now have a QB to lay a deep ball right on time and in stride.

We now pose a threat to keep the back 7 honest thus allowing Estime to run rampant over everyone.

Unless our green offensive coaching ruins it...and the fact they haven't been doing too long to pick up horrible habits....

Should be a fun explosive offense

Unless we over sign we won’t hit 284 with the 24 class so this will be like a Kelly 3 year run …. What that means is not good enough. I think freeman can do better than Kelly recruiting by a lot but he needs to show it on the field too

Good to know. Thanks.

No it won't if you average it out we'll have higher points and higher player average which is more important

Best 3 year run since Weis.

There are only so many carries. The question you really need to ask is can a combination of price, love, and Payne equal the production of diggs. I think the answer is yes, and that with the home run ability of love it may exceed it.

Yea and Diggs led the team in Carrie’s last year. I’d bet Love doesn’t get a whole lot of Carrie’s, especially if Price/GP are healthy. To another posters comment, it will likely be halfway through the season until the rookie backs bring the production Diggs did.
