I’m a loser and bored so i compared the 2022 vs 2023 roster(s). I think this year’s team is considerably better on paper. Agree ? Disagree?

Agree…. Foskey , Patterson, and Mayer are only major losses….. jayson and Joseph should have been but they didn’t play to their potential last year

Hartman is such an upgrade he may cancel out those 3 alone

Yes better especially QB, receiver, DB, LB, RB.

We need a new safeties coach.

I also still think we are a DE and interior DL away. It’s a shame bc we could actually beat Georgia if we had 1 elite player or two.

Definitely yes.

For starters, our Head Coach now has experience. I coached my 11yr old boy's soccer team this year and I know nothing about soccer, running practices, game substitutions etc. Here we are 7 games in and wow I sure wish I knew 7 games ago what I know now. Freeman knows football, but he never lead a team before last year. I think we see the most improvement from him.

Major upgrade at QB. WR room is upgraded (I think Tyree has a breakout year), OL stronger and older. RB depth better, starter another year in the program. Team should average 35ppg easy.

I think the defense takes a small step back due to the DL. And I think Special Teams takes a small step back too.

We win 3 of 3 in the big games and finish 12-0 (OSU is taking a step back, Snead will spy Caleb Williams, ND and Hartman own ACC/Clemson). We win the first round of the playoffs and get smoked by Georgia in the title game. Recruiting improves. Our biggest concern now is when does OSU come for Marcus since Day floundered around another year and Harbaugh whooped him again.

Yes. Last 2 years the roster hasn't been that great. Only 5 draft picks last 2 years

Offense should be much better in nearly all aspects. Mayers and Diggs and Patterson are significant losses, but our QB and Receivers are significant upgrades, and I think our RB talent is such that Diggs‘ production will be readily replaced. Alt and Zeke and Fisher all return for What should be a very good OL, but questions persist as to who will win the one of the two open guard positions. I was not a fan of Luggs, so my view is whoever wins his spot will be at least as good, and probably better. Patterson’s experience and leadership at the other guard position will be missed, regardless of Schrauth’s high upside. I think Fisher will finally dominate And give us the best offensive tackle duo in the country. Mayers was money on damn near every critical down, and he will be sorely missed.

I also think defense will be better overall, but Foskey and Jayson will be missed on the DL. The addition of Baptiste and the emergence of some of our young guys will more than offset this. Our linebacker play at A minimum will be equal with the return of all three starters, but the young studs with greater speed and athleticism are going to force their way onto the field, and overall our front six or seven will be better than last year’s. We are better at corner with Hart being injury free as long as Morrison doesn’t take a step back; we should be better at nickel with Harper’s addition; and safety is much improved with Watt ready for a breakout year, and the addition of Carter to compete for the other safety position. I still worry about our overall safety play, but Joseph was a huge disappointment in my opinion, and so no drop off comparing this year to last.

I don't agree with this. He does a great job developing safeties, but needs work recruiting high level guys.

Offense - downfield adding should be much better. Instead of one weapon in mayer we have the ability to pick where to go with the ball at any time. Rb should be stable and I expect ol to be a strength by the ncsu game. The only question to me is does jaguesah push out one of the guards. If he's really up to 325 and still rock solid I can't imagine him not pushing for time.

Defense - I think the dline play will be much better. The individuals on the line last year failed to live up to the hype and never bought in. This year it should be more of a collective effort and that makes things a lot more dynamic. I think we have 3-4 players that can pressure from the dl vs 1 last year. The only concern is how we hold up vs owner rushing teams. Linebackers should be better, but the dl plays a big role in this as they can't let blockers hot the second level and take our lbs out every play. Cbs should be strong and the safeties are the biggest question mark as brown and Henderson have not shown higher than average levels of talent and consistency.

This is the first time in a long time we have the potential to get in to a shootout against an elite team and not be embarrassed.

It's the first time in forever we don't have to try and shorten the game.
In other words playing with hopes of not losing by too much. Taking forever to snap the ball...no urgency between plays.

We just didn't "go for it" in top match-up games. We played timid and tentative and the results confirm just thar.

We will see but finally having a legit QB on the roster that is looking to get huge chunk down the field plays is extremely exciting.

Been way too lomg!!

Absolutely. The offense should be much better. QB and WRs were huge question marks all year. It was Mayer or bust. Passing game should dramatically improve which will only benefit the run game.

As for defense, the only guys I wish we had coming back are Jayson and Foskey. But if the young guys step up and match or exceed production, then this defense should be fine. Think they have the potential to be very good but not yet elite. ND needs more talent at d-line and safety positions. I don't think the guys we have are bad. Just not guys who move the needle. At least not yet anyway.

Ask me in November, 6 months from now.

yea we would beat Georgia with "1 elite player or two" in 1 out of 100 games

I’d say if we had both peak level Stephon Tuitt and Jerry Tillery on this current team we’d have a good shot. Keeley/Rushing and Scott have a similar ceiling.

If we had that tell me where Georgia would be demonstrably better than ND besides safety, LB and maybe TE.

Didn’t we lose by 1 and 6 the last 2 times we played them?
This was back during the early part of Georgia's rebuild before all of the 5 star talent on that roster matured, and that was when we had a really good veteran coach who maximized the middling talent on NDs roster.

This poster never misses an opportunity to badmouth ND. Whether it be the school administration, coaching staff, recruiting, talent or players, we can be sure that this poster thinks they suck.

Jagusah adds intrigue for sure. He played guard in HS before moving to tackle his senior year, so talk of him playing Guard in college for his first year is not crazy. Neither is moving Fisher to left guard and Jagusah to right tackle. Wish he had been an early enrollee, and absent that, we have no idea how close he is to pushing for playing time. Rudolph had his hands full trying to decide between Kristofic and Rocco, and Jagusah might complicate this further. I hope so.

Good problem to have.

Not sure RB is better or safety (db). RB room being better hinges on Jadarian being ready to roll but behind Estime, got 3 backs with 0 Carrie’s at this level.
The point is we are nearly as good if you added a couple 5 star DL kids over the past 4 years. We suck at DL recruiting and have for the past like 5 years. It’s possible Keeley stuck if we hadn’t hired Al Washington. If freeman wants to cement his legacy he will hire the best DL coach in America that he can get and that’s the most important position I would argue outside QB.

A ton of ufa which is normally good. We’ve missed the difference makes last few years. We have a few most likely this year from the 21 classes or earlier in Alt fisher Hartman Thomas estime mills baptiste, botelho, hart, watts, carter …. That’s to me 11 players not including sophs or frosh that probably will be drafted next 2 years

People don’t realize Joseph didn’t even play much in the games he suited up
For later on because he was injured… when he was in, Joseph’s played well when in but he only played about half our defensive plays. He want great, but he was our best safety by far last year.

Kelly allowed some poor recruiters on his staff and he himself was getting lazy. Good thing MF has changed that the last 2 years

Were you surprised when LSU offered Brian Kelly 100 million over 10 years?

Nearly everyone who posts here agrees with you. I thought fisher played way Below expectations last regular season, especially the first four or five games, and The last game against USC. In between, he played well. He came into Spring practice carrying his weight much better and he looked much better equipped to handle speed rushes, his area of weakness last season. So yes, the conventional thinking is that he is going to realize his immense potential this season and give us the best tackle duo in the country, and I buy this.

That said, Jagusah could conceivably show that he is among the best five OL, and that he is better at tackle than guard; whereas I think Fisher might prove to be a better guard than tackle. Not suggesting any of this is likely, and you know that. But Jagusah might prove to be such a disruptive talent that conventional Thinking is upended.

Effort wise and plan freeman and staff has improved for sure … results, not there yet. His first two classes will fall outside top 10 most likely. That’s Kelly like… the gap is not closing. Hartman is the best thing freeman has done as HC, if it wasn’t for getting Hartman we’d be an 8-4 team again at best with Buchner

21, 22 and 23 classes will be our best 3 year recruiting stretch since Weis

Thank you MF

So he gets credit for 3 classes deapuye being here for less than 2.5 years? His first year as dc our O class was better than the D ever so slightly

Yes he gets the credit. The D class was very good and Kelly left in November. Players had plenty of time to go play for Kelly if you really think it was his class. They could have decommitted and went to play anywhere.

2 of the offensive guys committed after Kelly left, Schrauth and Payne, 2 guys who do get time this year. Schrauth probably starts

Yes he gets the credit. Morrison was our best frosh last year, what side of the ball was he?

Sneed wasnt even offered before MF. How is that possible
