Espn is running a story on what the win over ND in 2015 meant to their program. Central to the story is the Bring Your Own Guts pregame speech by Swiney that exploded the emotions of the Clemson players. Throughout 2015, Kelly was promoting the wisdom of his pregame approach designed to take emotion away from his players based on the reasoning that emotion saps energy and causes mistakes.
Kelly has had an epiphany in many of his approaches to coaching ND since then and deserves the Coach of the Year awards he has won this year, but I hope he reads the Swiney story and recognizes how Swiney used emotion as a powerful weapon that night in 2015. It's a certainty that Swiney will have his team riding a wave of emotion at the kick off. Let's hope the "storied, historic" program revered by the Clemson players in 2015 will be ready to respond in kind in 2018.
