SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame Fighting Irish cornerback Nick Watkins will miss the final two weeks of spring practice after undergoing surgery for a broken left arm.

The university said Sunday that the 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back from DeSoto, Texas, underwent successful surgery Saturday after being injured in practice earlier in the day. He is competing for a starting job.

Watkins played in 12 games last season and made his first start against Ohio State in the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl, with three tackles and a pass breakup. He played in 12 games last season and finished with eight tackles. As a freshman in 2014, Watkins played primarily on special teams.

If you're going to get injured, spring is the time of the year to do it and a broken arm isn't too terrible...as injuries go

He should be good to practice in the summer and can continue doing a lot of the conditioning until then too

I'm hoping the surgery isn't/wasn't screws, pins, plates....

I too would be interested in hearing the exact nature of the surgery

Some breaks are a lot more concerning than others

ot I still can't believe how well Bryant Young did with a rod placed in his legs load bearing bone. Miraculous..... when I hear surgery on the set I automatically think something is up. We need to stay healthy and finish this semester without incident....

This is going to continue as long as the same S&C staff stays at ND.

That's beyond stupid

S&C has literally no impact on almost any bone break
Now if we were talking about muscle tears or a contusion, that would be different.
You can't do anything to train ligaments, tendons, or bones

By all accounts, this is a very good S&C staff
Hell, it has former FBS Head Coach on it
