Per ESPN, "Two weeks, two quarterback departures. The transfer culture that permeates college football's most important position is one thing; this is quite another for Texas A&M.

The cold, hard truth: This is ugly.

The Aggies witnessed their second scholarship quarterback in as many weeks leave the program as freshman Kyler Murray elected to transfer out of the program, only a week after sophomore Kyle Allen -- a fellow former top-ranked recruit at the position -- did the same."

This is baffling At least to me cause I do not know what is going on at TAMU But I thought Kyler Allen was the starter? Beat out the guy who left last week? So, this is crazy Where is Allen going?

they are going to a bowl

to transfer is one thing but to do so before the bowl? what about 'team'?

are they worried they won't find a spot? Or are they that pissed at KS? Couldn't they have just gone out for a few drinks and resolved their differences? (then carry Sum back to his room?)

Allen is likely headed to Cal.

That is is three Five Star QBs to transfer out of there in the last year counting the kid from Southlake TX that left for TCU. Most schools will not have three Five Stars in ten years of recruiting, let alone have all three leave in a year. Sounds like KS was not open and honest with them.

I do not care much for TAMU but respect their program. All I can say is that any recruit on the fence with ND and TAMU has to be a lock for ND at this point.

Word down here is that there is a good chance KS could get the axe after the bowl. The provost is pretty much done with Sumlin. All I can say is wow.

Good one Perse. Funny.

Sumlin mismanaged the QB situation. He threw Allen under the bus when he played him when he was hurt and didn't acknowledge that he was hurt. The relationship between Sumlin and Allen was very poor. Kyler (freshman 5 *) wanted to play baseball for A&M and still be guaranteed to be the starter next fall. KS wouldn't go for that.
A&M will play a JC transfer who surpassed Cam Newton's records at Blinn JC. I hope he does well. Another 5* is committed to join the team for the 2017 season.
The Aggies are growing tied of Sumlin but like other schools, the university agreed to a contract that makes it very expensive to get ride of him.

I live in Dallas and they've been talking about this on the radio a lot. Surprisingly, there was an A&M insider and he said the 2 most likely destinations he's been hearing for Murray are Arizona and Notre Dame. I was a little shocked to hear that considering our current QB situation.

I would be SHOCKED if he landed at ND. But I guess things might be happening behind the scenes. But hey, he knows he can play football AND baseball here certainly, but he has a TON of comp to get the starting role. The question I have for the whole situation is, Kyle and Kyler have already opted out, any word on when Kylest will transfer as well?

Sumlin is on a historic slide from penthouse to outhouse. Reminds me of another former A&C head honcho:

Kyler is toxic. He was not respected by his teammates. He may give up football and make a go for it with baseball.
An Aggie's advice to ND - stay away from KM. ND doesn't need the hassle and can continue to sign other QB's who can take care of business.

They would owe him a large chunk of money payable within 60 days of his release. Don't think that is going to happen.

It's a reflection of the spoiled entitled culture of big time HS sports. All these National TV games, high profile camps, 7 on 7 tornaments and those ridiculous Scout and Rivals star projections.

It has filled the heads of kids, parents, relatives and street agents with the idea that football programs and football coaches "owe" these players something. A player is owed nothing but an opportunity to work their tails off. Period.

I hate the world we live in today. Everyone seems to just want to tear down somebody else to make themselves feel better. It reminds me of an old saying, "your candle never burns brighter by blowing another candle out."

you can't promise the starting job to a 17 yr old! and his family...too many witnesses!

but I agree this is a contingent to be AVOIDED

Sumlin made promises that would mean he owed something to Murray. Don't make promises you can't keep.

What promises did Sumlin make? I don't know and I doubt anyone else knows either. Like everything in life you get both sides of the story and truth is somewhere in between. Saying someone will have an opportunity to be the starting QB as a Freshman, is whole lot different than saying you WILL be the starting QB as a Freshman. Sumlin is a really good coach and been around the block a few times, My "guess" would be the receiver of message had a comprehension problem.

The only one saying Sumlin didn't promise Murray the starting job or at minimum a 50/50 split of the snaps is Sumlin and he isn't denying he made the promise he just isn't addressing it. We can blame the kid but Sumlin has culpability to.

there's a bad video of Sumlin absolutely annihilated on the internet. may have something to do with why he may be gone.

Any coach who promises a kid a starting position without earning it gets what he deserves.

Basketlax, if that was Sumlin, its hilarious. However, it wasn't definitively him.

Irishjohn, I agree. Nothing good comes from it.

I think I read that the parents believe that was the arrangement; and for them, if they believed that then it is their reality. Apparently the kid's ability will not 'actually' acquire the starting position, so a negotiated settlement was the fallback!

This is unfortunately, as is becoming the common case, a business decision instead of a parenting decision.
It was just a marketing (recruiting) strategy with the eye on the ultimate ka-ching!
Sum is screwing with the product! their cash cow!

He should have gone pro. The reports when this first came out was that the promise was made to get him to EE so he wouldn't go pro.

He was expected to be a first round pick in baseball. Teams didn't draft him because he ee and told teams he was going to play both at A&M.... the reports are murray and his dad had a promise for playing time before they told teams that.

well, the parents do know the kid is an amateur right? that the kid is going to college to get an education right?
sounds like they are just protecting their 'investment' ! It is all about the 'Benjamin's.

Any university that takes on this contingent, after seeing all this mess, is getting what they deserve.
