Imagine you are a D coordinator planning against the Irish.

BODI don't bring your 50 shades of Blue and Gold torture fantasies here man this is a family friendly environment.

Imagine a DC having to prep for G Tech. Ranked #2 in Rushing offense, 17 in Total offense, and just for good measure, 12th in Scoring offense.

If I'm the D coordinator against BK's offense.....I rush 2 guys. That's right I'm dropping 9 guys into coverage. I believe that BK can't help himself and will still throw the ball. If Zaire is allowed to improvise on his own then I will just forfeit. And when ND is inside the ten I'm definitely dropping everyone because the one spot we should run BK would rather throw a touchdown pass.....even at the expense of getting a field goal or no points whatsoever.

I would probably start working on touching up my resume just in case the inevitable happens.

Scoring O National Rank
2010 66
2011 49
2012 80
2013 74
2014 40

No one fears our offense. No one.....

I think this every year, but I think this is the year our O really shows up and explodes. We have too much talent on the O line for anything else to happen. Yes QB is an important position, but a great line makes the job much easier (see ALA in 12). It is our D that worries me. The GT game will be the hardest on our schedule. BVG will have to load up the rush and hope the DBs can withstand the storm.

We lost Golson and Bryant which were major hits. However, kelly can and has dialed up game plans from out of the blue that are extraordinary. "Who are these guys?...." Oklahoma, FSU, Stanford....

I agree with you that this O line can be dominant. That means pushing forward and not heading into pass protection retreat.

Texas is going to come out swinging. They have a lot of beef and are an extremely proud team looking to make a statement. This is a huge stage for both teams. We need to survive their first attacks on both sides of the ball as do they with us. Then we need to settle in and impose our will.

If we can show a level of discipline similar to the games I noted and do it consistently we'll be fine.

PS kelly would fair well to take his on field tirades to the locker room or behind his office door. Their are 12 weekends where he needs to control himself. To date he hasn't been able to....

imo his ire would be better directed at refs....

How is Bryant a major hit? The kid did absolutely nothing except apparently smoke tree.

Stop the nonsense about Tenuta and BVG.

Tenuta was a bad cultural fit on a team with a coach (Charlie) trying anything to develop an identity on defense. Bad fit and bad meshing of defensive coaches with Corwin Brown as D coordinator (a position Brown was not ready for)...with a Head coach that could only get dlineman by moving over offensive lineman. Tenuta was known for an attacking 3-4 defense that blitzed from all over the field. It just never materialized at ND and has been exposed as being strong against a pro style offense but weak against current spread teams.

BVG is in the midst of switching personnel from a 3-4 bend "dont break defense" to an attacking 4-3 defense. The players required for these schemes and the mentality change of the players in new positions takes time to implement. We should see improvements this year, but last year ND was a top defense through 6 games before injuries started to take hold. The jury is still out, but the coaching situation and challenges are very different.

I think some people have short term memories or simply dont understand the differences between the two situations.
