doing a fine job and ND fans need to not worry as much about the Stanford and Temple loss last night. I don't think they overreact to these things as much as the fans do. They may ding ND a little bit in their mind after watching the ND game from yesterday. It was a game never up in the air, but the boys didn't play great football.

I want to know what team has a so called signature win? Is it Clemson with the win over ND or Bama with the win over LSU? Well that LSU win doesn't look so strong. Ok with the win over Baylor?

Maybe we just have a group of 10 teams, take or give a couple, that are all fairly even. Will the committee consider UM or MSU a signature win for Ohio St? Both those teams have proved they can easily lose almost any week.

Only bama really took care of business and they have a conf championship to play. All others were in CLOSE games.....or lost. All ND can do is WIN OUT!!!

Lots of losses to come. Don't be surprised that every Big 12, every Pac 12 and every ACC team have losses.

ND is at #4, two more wins will get them in, just win.

This is why the playoff number should total eight teams.
No this is why they should they should expand the playoff to 8 teams and just do away with conferences. Take the top 64 teams in college football and divide the country up into 8 divisions. Assign 8 teams to each division with a guarantee spot in the playoff for the winner of the division. You may have to move teams around to balance out the divisions but at least it is done on the field and not in some backroom with ESPN telling them who they want in. It know this won't happen because there is too much money with bowl games and TV contracts but this is truly the only way you will even get close to a true champion.

I don't see this happening ever, or in my lifetime. I think we will see it expanded to eight, but that may be a decade away. First step is to force teams to not schedule FBS teams and the committee actually can enforce this by holding teams accountable for scheduling.

Are you then saying there would be eight division winners based on geography? Balance them around? What would be the methodology outside of geography?

No, that would never work and be just as wrong as having a poor conference champ getting in ahead of a number two in a strong conference or an independent team.

I would disagree a bit, we took care of business as well. Didn't play our best, but really the game was never in doubt and we won by 3 touchdowns.

Just a horrible idea. Sounds like the NFL, Jr., to me.

You nailed it, buddy !!

Why not just go to 8 teams and let the power 5 have an automatic bid with the next three teams with the highest rankings get in? The committee could seed the teams. They could make this happen tomorrow and not have to "change" the face of college football one bit. This way you could incorporate more of the top tier bowls into the playoff. All of the people professing to care about the game but really care only about the money can still claim to be high and mighty and we could move pass this "committee picks four" foolishness. And it is foolishness. These people are no different than us. They have opinions but my guess is many on this board watch more of the games than they do. What we have now is a joke. Just figure out how to price the playoff games where the ramp up in pay goes to the power conferences so they don't have to split the money. Figuring out a playoff system is easy. Figuring out how to placate the greed in college football is the trick.

Not a fan of 8. Like that the regular season still matters a ton. 8 waters it down. Especially with automatics. USC Has three losses and still might win the pac 12. Do they deserve a shot at the title. I love college basketball and as a uconn fan love the tourney. It's entertaining. But uconn has been declared the national champ a couple times when's they barely were 500 regular season. Were they really the national champ? Or just winners of a tournament.

Not sayin 8 is like 64. But it just weakens the college football brand and what has made it so great forever. Keep it 4, 6 tops where top two get buys (making regular season important again).

Also if it goes to 8 nd should definitely join a conference as conference teams will have two bites at the apple. At large bid and conference bid. An 8-3 nd team will never make the playoffs even at 8. But usc pac 12 champ will.

Agree. I love the drama and importance of every game with the 4-team format. If it was an 8-team format, we'd all be chillin' and not getting too excited about all that's going on. But since it's 4...we hang on every game going on out there. Much more fun.

I've been hearing in the radio and TV media that ND is the week link of the Final Four. That Clemson, Bama, and OSU would all love to open with ND as their opponent. I also think it wouldn't take very much for the committee to move ND out regardless if they win out or not. Just because Stanford lost last night does not mean they lay down to the Irish. It all goes down to the old saying and much it rings true. Beat Clemson. Take care of your own business.

You mean FCS teams.

No worry. My projection is Fiesta Bowl for 11-1 Notre Dame. What your projection ND will be in Bowl game?

I'd want ND if I was an opponent too. We all saw how soft the team came out at Clemson. If ND had a Better coach I believe that feeling wouldn't exist. The talent is there at ND but the mentality that Bama players have each week is not. Coaching matters and coach Kelly would never beat Saban or Meyer head-to-head.

More of the usual from this alleged ND fan.

Not worried about the Stanford or Temple losses. Why? ND has beaten or will play
#15 Stanford (will play)
#19 Navy
#22 USC
a two loss Temple that crushed Penn St. (a three loss team)
and a three loss Pitt that came within a score of beating one loss UNC.

The resume is still pretty strong.

Lots of football to be played. ND needs to take care of its own business
and hope for some help.

Clemson will have a tough, tough game against North Carolina.
OSU has MSU, UM and Iowa left.
OK ST has Baylor and OK left and almost lost to Iowa State.
Bama has the Iron Bowl and the SECCG.

Things can, and will, change dramatically between now and selection Sunday.
