Yes, 2 bad loses. However, Navy gives a lot of coaches fits the first time they face the Midshipman. Kelly found that out. If Herman was given a chance to coach the talent that ND has, ND would become a deadly program. I would love to see the combination of Hermans coaching talent mixed with the ND talent.

But, I do like coach Fleck. He will take his Westrn Michigan team 12-0 this year. I live about 40min from Western. Fleck is the talk of the area. Western has been a bottom feeder of the MAC forever. The stadium used to be empty. Yesterday it was full. He will land a HUGE job.

if they can't get herman then a bag of tennis balls is another better option than standing pat!

Kelly is coming back next year. Herman will have a new team year next year.

Herman in my opinion is too similar to Weis and Kelly. No thanks.

As beach says above ^^^ Kelly is back in 2017 ... after that we'll see.

Thank Jesus the jack asses on this board aren't running this program. I don't think BK is the answer but good god, Herman? You hire a guy that is Saban or Meyer or somewhere near. I'll bet my ass we'll be having the same conversation in 3-5 years. If I'm Swarbrick, I don't let BK go unles it's a Homerun.

I'll take Brian Harsin, PJ Fleck, or Paul Chryst if Barry Alvarez comes as AD. Anything would be better than the current douche.

Petersen and Herman aren't coming to ND.

Do you know how stupid you sound after Shaw came in and embarrassed ND in the second half and now ND is 2-5? Whether you like it or not a lot of people on here get it. At 2-5 it doesn't look like the people running the program, currently, know what they're doing either.

it just has to be someone that excites recruits, parents, fans and the players. A personality they relate to, trust and respect. But most definately someone 'else'. 'He done'.

Word tonight out of Texas is that UT and Herman have already sealed the deal fwiw.

When Holtz was hired in '86, Schembechler was quoted as saying "ND is going to be a bitc$ to play against." We need someone that elicits that kind of response. Herman with two years of coaching experience at Houston, no thanks.

How about someone like Whittingham at Utah? Or Petersen? Or Gundy at Oklahoma St? All these guys have won 100 games and all have a higher winning percentage than Lou did prior to coming to South Bend. Make it happen Swarbrick!

Herman will most likely be coaching Texas in 2017. Kelly will get at least one more full season to right the ship.

Petersen won't happen, why bother. Gundy does not play (don't want him) i like Whittingham because he has solid D's. even though the talent is not nearly as good as Notre Dame. He could make us a contender. I doubt Kelly gets fired anyhow.

Gundy is the only one of those you mention who would probably like to listen to an offer. Petersen just moved and he has built a PAC favorite. Whittingham seems to have deep roots in Utah.

Funny to see people put Gundy's name out there. Oklahoma St. annually gives up huge numbers of points on defense.

NDSMC - All coaches have their warts. If message boards were around in 1985, I suspect folks would note Holtz being a .500 coach at Minnesota, or burning out at Arkansas in his 7th season.

Maybe Kelly regains his passion and turn things around next season. I hope so, this has been a rough fall. But if not, we shouldn't let perfect be the enemy of good.

I totally agree. There is no perfect coach out there. I think the chances that someone other than Kelly will be on the ND sidelines in 2017 are about zero. A lot of you guys are going to be disappointed, but Kelly is almost certainly coming back.
But even if we were to assume that Kelly is replaced, shouldn't we be looking for someone who has proven to be better than Kelly? I personally don't think that Mike Gundy is t hat person.

If the mandate is a proven winner, with experience at a big time program, with a physical, defense first, mentality, who would also be available, the only candidate is Les Miles.

LSU doesn't share your opinion. However, as has been stated, BK will probably be the coach of the Irish next year. The best thing that can happen is for BK to right the ship, win out and go into next year with momentum. I've seen nothing to suggest that will be the case, but as a fan of the Irish, I can watch and hope.

If Kelly does come back next season this program will be such a dumpster fire that no decent coach will want anything to do with it and ND will wind up with another Weis type.

Herman is going to get close to if not north of $7mil if the reports are right... ND never had a shot.
