Huh. Now the talking heads are saying Clemson

Clemson was 8-0 and deserved respect based on their past. They may very well win out making them an 11-1 team. They were not overrated at the time they played ND and they are appropriately rated now. Had ND not lost to Marshall and Stanford, it wouldn't have been as bad of a loss for them either, likely improving their current ranking.
Yes, they deserved respect, but they were not the 8-0 teams of the past and the forecasting models showed this. 8-0 while out-talenting every team they’ve played by a clear margin while being a top 15-20 team on a possession by possession basis is not the same as being a top 3-5 team on a possession by possession basis as they have been in the past are two different things.
We’re not in 1990 anymore where all we look at is record.

Was it a very good win for ND? Yes.
Was it a momentum win for ND? Yes.
Was Clemson a good team? Yes.
Was Clemson a top 4 team? No, not by any statistical measure or model.

Sorry, but all these forecasting models and most statistics are bullshit; numbers on a page. Every year is different; maybe it has something to do with who they are playing and when they are playing them? It was a great win for our program over a perennially week coached, well stocked team. That is all that matters, and that is real. It happened on the field of play. The rest is talking heads bullshit

Every year is different. There is no team as good as Burrow led LSU. This was a big win because it was a top 5 team. ND is also not as good as some past years and has no quarterback, making it a big win. If Clemson had won, they'd still be a top 5 team and likely finish the season undefeated. Had Clemson won and made the playoffs, everyone would've assumed they were a top 5 team and never looked back.
