Has been over rated all year and they play in a weak league all they survived on was a soft schedule??? Some of that is true but that was an epic beat down on a top 5 team in all phases of the game. Clemson did win 8 games this year.
where is the love for the irish

Two things can be true. ND has a great win, played dominant football, won the biggest game of the Marcus Freeman era.

And Clemson has played a soft schedule, the ACC is down, and Clemson was nowhere near being the 4th best team in the country. 2022 Clemson would be the 4th best team in the SEC West.

We need to show we can perform like this more than just once a quarter of a century.

But....why the hell do you need some trendy talking head to shower you with praise and glory? You know what just happened without some ass hat on ESPN to confirm it for you.
Enjoy the big win and hope many more big wins to come.

You have no idea if that's true or not. Styles make fights and Dabo has won titles with multiple QB's (should have three titles). You're just as guilty with the trendy love affair with the SEC as ESPN. Let me know the next time they play above the Mason Dixon line post Halloween.
Top 10 team at least.

The experts were all over Tenn a few weeks ago and are now throwing them under the bus
Of course...Tennessee was the flavor of the week. They've been bad for a long time so they've no recent credibility to say otherwise.

It's true, they were indeed quite visibly overrated, or however you'd like to characterize it. It's been the narrative on them virtually all season long, for very tangible, specific reasons, as in they win all those close games against comparatively shitty ACC competition, and don't seem all that impressive or formidable doing it. There's no reason for you to be threatened by it now, or to overstate the matter. Not that that's going to stop you.

But they're still Clemson, they were still undefeated and ranked 4th. And we kicked the shit out of them, we didn't just eke out a win like they've been doing. So you can console yourself with that, and I would say I that ND's honor is still intact or whatever the F you're worried about. And we definitely get major props for the win.

“Overrated” ?

Really ?

So you bet ND BIG !

You took ND without the points and got the odds ?

20-20 hindsight allows everyone to be a genius, even know nothings like Golson5 !

CBSSports.com wasn't better.

I don't see how Bama's controversial win over the inept Aggies was better than Clemson's close call with Syracuse.
It wasn't...

See the SEC is in bed with ESPN and they scratch those backs...

Do you realize just how much influence those clowns on ESPN have on voters and committee?

See they don't say vote xyz or else...

They just repeat the same horseshit over and over and over so it must make it so...right?

I say again let me know when the SEC will come north the Mason Dixon line post Halloween

They absolutely positively refuse doing such a thing.

Clemson was both overrated and very good. They weren't top five good before the loss, but they were top ten good. And the game wasn't even close.

There is no way that this was other than a very, very, good win for ND, against a top team.
Agreed. It was a classic win. I haven't been that fired up in a long time....

The way we beat them…….finding their strength and crushing it over and over….that made it impressive imo, no fluke calls or lucky bounces….:it was like watching a one sided MMA fight…….

The SEC is a top heavy conference, just like every other conference is and has been in CFB. 2 or 3 teams each year contend, a bunch that are ok and the lower third that sucks. Its the make up of every conference in college football. Was TN over rated? Was AL over rated?

Everyone has been saying the SEC is so far ahead of everyone for over a decade and then every year come bowl season the exact same thing happens year after year. Mediocre Big 10 teams either beat or keep it close with SEC teams.

Always donkeys. Always. They live among us. They vote. They screw things up. They also predicted and would get their lunch pail kicked but now. Clemson is a roll of Charmin.

That was our best game of the year, but also maybe Clemson wasn't really a top 5 team - probably top 10-12 IMO. So it was a combination of both, but nevertheless, a great game for the Irish.

Absolutely! With this win, ND now needs to get to a consistent performance on a week in and out basis (yes, there will be games where they are just flat -- human nature). But, if Marcus wants to continue to change the culture, this is his next step. And now, he has to flip scripts and face a Navy team that does not run a traditional offense and requires discipline.

But to the staff and players -- one heck of a win!

Yeah. There is a pretty significant drop off in the SEC West after LSU, Ole Miss & Bama.

In the east it's Georgia then Tennessee and that is it.

So they have 5 teams

Big 10 has 2
Acc has 2 maybe
Big12 has 1ish
Pac has 3 maybe but their best got destroyed vs the sec

SEC will have more highly rated programs due to several factors including public perception.

I had to laugh at the ESPN story on Clemson getting worked by ND

Though I noted that this morning the part of it that talked about Swarbrick steeling the ACC's commissioners lunch money and how ND not becoming a full part of the ACC is slowly killing it has disappeared

Clemson has beaten no one. I love the win. It was a much needed big win. However, Clemson is not Clemson from 3-4 years ago. I love the win though.

definitely not the Clemson from the Lawrence years. Still, they are a talented team, especially defensively. The Irish offensive line looked like a very good cohesive unit. When an opposing team knows you are going to run and still are able to have great success running, that says a lot. It was a great win. Time for the focus to be on Navy and to keep things going in the right direction.

Clemson, unless they meltdown in the next three games, are going to the ACC Championship game. Their final three games are at home vs Louisville, Miami & South Carolina. Louisville has won four straight, could present a few problems. I see them beating Miami and likely South Carolina.

If they play North Carolina in the ACC Championship game I think it's a shootout. UNC can score points but their defense gives up a ton of points. Then, if it's a matter of Clemson having one loss at year's end to Notre Dame, interesting choice the committee will have to make.

Lots of teams get ranked after beating no one. Usually going on their recent pass success.
Clemson is still a very talented team with a top coach.
What part of that makes so many have heartburn?

An unranked ND team smacks the hell out of # 4 Clemson (who was favored in the game), and now suddenly, they are "over-rated" -- on the flip side, had Clemson won the game, then the narrative that ND cannot beat a top 5 team still runs rampant.

Well they are still a powerful team that will not be a big underdog to anyone. That being said it was weird how Bama needed a controversial call and a bad decision on the last play to survive A&M; the Aggies having already lost to Applachia State.

Yes but unfortunately bottom of the table in the Sun Belt!

To be fair, the talking heads as well as Posters here on the board talked about how Clemson isn’t as good this year as it has been in the past even though Clemson has an extremely talented defense with multiple first and second round picks. Clemson underperforming on a possession by possession basis, e.g., look at F+ or overall efficiencies, which is the telltale sign that it wasn’t as good this year as it has been in previous iterations, which is why many of us thought we could win.

The Tigers have underperformed on defense and due to underperformance at quarterback have underperformed on offense as well. There’s a reason that Clemson was only slightly favored against us, and there’s a reason why many of us thought that we could win the game though I don’t think many thought we’d dominate the way we did.

Take a look at the “game control” numbers from 2015-2020 and how Clemson was always top 3-4; there were very few games Clemson didn’t control start to finish, which is the hallmark of a dominant team on both sides of the ball. This year’s team hasn’t shown that control.

You can’t really be way overrated and be 8-0 in a P5.
Yes you can—on a possession by possession basis, Clemson was a top 3 team basically every one of the years it has been undefeated/1 loss under Dabo and controlled games start to finish on both sides of the ball. The possession by possession stats showed Clemson this year to be a top 15–20 team as opposed to those top 3-4 juggernauts of the past.

Now, what they do have is a winning culture and confidence that they’ll win and that has pulled out sone close wins for them, but that team was nowhere near their undefeated teams of the past.

Regardless of all that, it’s still a great win for us as we did it with a guy like Pyne at QB. Imagine we actually get someone talented at QB…

Clemson was 8-0 and deserved respect based on their past. They may very well win out making them an 11-1 team. They were not overrated at the time they played ND and they are appropriately rated now. Had ND not lost to Marshall and Stanford, it wouldn't have been as bad of a loss for them either, likely improving their current ranking.

The media drives that shit ahd they set the trend for a generation that latches on to anything trendy.

AL lives and has lived on reputation.

There are years they deserve what they get but in others they get helped by what they did instead of doing.

We received similar treatment in the Holtz era. Particularly 87/88 thru 93/94

Analytics, baby! Seriously, this is no news flash. It's been the story, and the narrative, all season long. Clemson doesn't look all that great. They look beatable, they almost were beat a few times. They certainly haven't been steamrolling teams like they have in the past for the most part. They QB was shaky last year, he's been shaky this year. Etc., etc....

And even though a season is only a few months long, the take about overrated Clemson is already the established conventional wisdom for this year. Was Clemson really overrated in some abstract, pure sense? You'd have to ask the football gods that, they're the only ones that would know. But down here on earth, that's what everyone thinks, they have justifiable reason to at least think it, and quite frankly Clemson didn't do anything to invalidate that critique the way they got their ass kicked by us. They went down pretty easy.

Having said all that, of course it's a great win. They're still Clemson, they were still undefeated and ranked #4. It's not hard. But this shit is red meat for ND fans.
