Hudson Card

None of these QBs impress me all that much. No difference from just convincing Pyne not to transfer.
They're all more talented than Pyne, though. Pyne's about 5'10. The guys we're looking at are all about 6'2 and with stronger arms and better mobility.

I don't think ND is in a rush unless card wants in. Rumors flying about more qbs jumping into portal in second window.

Why is Marcus Freeman continuing to significantly out recruit Lincoln Riley in the 2023 class?

Two weeks until NSD, a surprise to me.
He may be a better recruiter. Also, I don't think Lincoln looks at recruiting in terms of website rankings. I think he is going for around 12 in the TP couple with select HS guys. We will see how he does with that. So, in February I will be judging him in terms to overall recruiting rather than HS recruiting.

I think Lincoln is a good recruiter, not a great one. He's a great qb and skills guy recruiter because he develops them. Outside of that, he's okay. Plus he plans on building his team through the portal

Still a little surprised with their class. Thought it would be better than this

Well see when it's over. The rating with 19 recruits is fine, I think his thinking is go after the five stars (he has three) and four stars, get projects where SC needs depth and work the portal for other immediate needs. Whether this will work or not, who knows. Looking at recruiting before the whole class is in is a little like judging a game on the second quarter score...sometimes you end up being right.

Their avg player ranking is 91.06. Good, not great. I'm a little surprised. He has a big reputation and is at SC now.

We're in the 4th quarter now. Far from the 2nd. He has 19 commits and signing day is in 2 weeks

Good not great is fair. Early signing day is in two weeks. The TP closing and signing day are weeks away. We will see in February.

He was a good recruiter at OU, usually classes ranked 8-12. Got some great offensive players; D talent did not develop as well. Probably had something to do with coaching. But he made out last year in the portal and may do it again.

You mentioned the TP. Im only talking recruiting
Well in the transfer portal you contact a player and urge him to join you team. How isn't that recruiting? Also, signing day is Feb 1, 2023, early signing day is in a few weeks.

And about 90 percent sign in December

Recruiting high school. Not talking about TP. Thought LR would be doing better at it

There is zero reason a school like USC with the weather and locale, in the middle of a fertile HS recruiting area, is this far behind Notre Dame in 2023 recruiting. Maybe USC will have a late rush and close the gap. We will see. Very surprised.

He can do it both ways, no?

Or does he only care about the TP now that he was successful that way
I think he looks at guys like the three five stars and four stars Then looks at player who have huge upside but need development, and fills the rest with established players from the TP. But he has only had one SC class so we will see.

Michael Penix turning down the NFL and returning to Washington is a huge surprise. USC adds Oregon and Washington to their schedule in 2023.
I’m interested to know if Nix has eligibility. If he will go in the draft if he does.

OK. I am looking more at how he improves the team.
Most of us here typically looked at recruiting in the context of multiple years to evaluate the extent to which the years are complimentary to need, etc…. In today’s TP world, this can be narrowed down to a yearly evaluation. Riley improved The team dramatically in his first year with the heavy reliance on the TP, and I expect we’ll see a better USC football team next season with his overall recruiting of high school players and players from the TP. I think this will be a formula for success for him, but time will tell.

There are advantages and disadvantages, but the nice thing about the portal is you often have tape of a player competing at the college level.

There are no linemen out here.

But using the criteria you look at, HS only, you would have said that about last year. A system that ignores the addition of Caleb William, Mario Williams, Addison, Gentry, is flawed.

Well, Utah did not seem to mind.

They added no one in the portal.

How in God’s name does Marcus Freeman out recruit Lincoln Riley for the 2023 recruiting class? USC has every advantage you can think of...weather, a recruiting area stockpiled with HS FB talent, more relaxed academics, location...in All honesty, it confuses the hell out of me.

Bc Riley is saving room for portal

The Rivals Star Average for the 2023 class sees Notre Dame way ahead of USC, and again, given USC's inherent recruiting advantages, it's hard to understand.
Bc they don’t care about recruiting. Riley will just borrow 20 players.

????

Who are "they?"

What are you talking about? What does borrow 20 players have to do with the 2023 class?

So now your narrative is USC "does not care" about recruiting?
