How much longer do you give Freeman?

45 mins to an hour? Surely that’s enough time to grab the photo frames and box a few pens up?

I'm just curious to get a feel for how many lost seasons are coming before we move on?

Depends on how they finish this year, sub .500 and all bets are off. He will get next year minimum. I feel he’s got the rest of this year plus the next two games unless you start seeing losing records.

Depends on how we finish. If we’re 10-3 or even 9-4 he shouldn’t be on the hot seat yet. But if things fall apart and we’re 7-6 or god forbid worse then he enters next season on the hot seat.

7-6 or worse seems to warrant more than entering next season on the hot seat

If the current trajectory of the program does not change?
He's probably going to get 5 years. Unless the wheels come completely off with recruiting, he'll get 5 years. No point in complaining about it in year 2. Let's see how this team finishes.

In my mind the only thing beyond that is firing. I think he should be given 3 years pretty much regardless. Ty Wilingham was 5-6 in his second year with much worse recruiting so it’s hard to justify ousting freeman before next season.

How many bad dates with a new girl before you dump her? Between 3 to 5? How about if on the 2nd date she shits herself and barfs all over you do you keep going out?

I'd say 3 and a half more seasons. Give him the money to hire whatever coaches he wants.

Maybe if you are a gastroenterologist.

That seems reasonable !

That sounds reasonable, but recruiting is useless if you can’t coach on the field

Why? Because I’m not ok with losing?
I’m not OK w losing either. I hate it. Last nights damn game ruined my weekend.

But please come here and talk football like a grown man should/does. Your homophobic, racist, and political comments are a stain on what’s largely a great place to talk ND Football.

You only talk that way because the board is anonymous. That’s soft. You’re soft. Imagine if people you cared about knew you were on the internet all hours of the night acting this way? It’d be pretty embarrassing. Is “this” who you are? I really hope not.

If we end this season 7-6 or worse, then I’d fire Freeman. This team shouldn’t lose 6 games. Not close.

If we end up 8-4, then he hits next season on the hot seat. No doubt about it.

He’s gotta rally the group and find a way to be Southern Cal Saturday night.

I miss & loved Lou Smogyi’s articles. I agree with Lou S. That year 3 will be the ceiling. I’d give MF 4/5 years.
If he does get let go. Two things stand out. Year 2 & having 10 players on the field vs Ohio St. How does that happen.
Last night end of first half & Hartman gets sacked. It’s 3rd & 11/12. Under a minute. Deep in the Irish territory. He calls TO. Why? Why ? Why? He then follows up with a throw that falls incomplete & stops the clock. Louisville licking their chops has a short field & a fg try. Why?

The two above really show a coach’s inexperience. Unfortunately I think MF is in over his head.

wow, geez! double date much?

8-4, gets him one more year to prove himself, worse and he’s gone after the year(should be)… 10-2 and he’ll be here a few more years

Before they get rid of anyone. How about having a capable replacement. This whole thread is nuts that they should have beaten Ohio St.

They were bad decisions, no question. But I saw them as PANIC REACTIONS as well, building up to the 4th and 11 call. I believe there was also ANOTHER fourth and long later that also FIZZLED.

As the game got further out of hand what I saw was DESPERATION MOUNTING. Freeman was back looking how he'd looked in the first bowl game and in the Marshall and Stanford games.

Out of his depth, I agree.

I'm beginning to wonder if Rees, despite working with somewhat inept QB's, held this team TOGETHER last year by MANUFACTURING OFFENSE in the way Kelly claimed he, Brian Kelly, could always do. How ironic would that be, but then Rees may have learned a thing or two from Kelly.

But my concern now is, if a) my theory has legs and b) Parker is just as overmatched as Freeman, other teams may be able to "GET ND's NUMBER" and turn projected comfortable ND wins into close games or even upsets.

There's sometimes a VERY THIN LINE between a team that can WIN ANY GAME and one that can LOSE ANY GAME. And the SHIFT can occur quite suddenly.

And I say this REGARDLESS of what happens against USC. If a team is FLAWED, the flaws may not always show up when you expect them to, but, over time, you WILL see them.
