Obviously we're months and months away from signing day and 9 commits does not a class make.
That said, about a year ago, he was getting railed on by this board for lacking a plan and being a joke of a recruiting coordinator. People were saying we would never recover from the loss of Tony Alford as RC and complaining that we weren't having enough early events like the highly successful Junior Day of this past weekend.
To me, not only has he been just as good as Alford, but I'd definitely argue that as a recruiting coordinator, he's been even better than Alford ever was. There's far more tandem recruiting, organized plans and far less free for all recruiting. He rebounded in a year where ND was replacing almost half of its coaching staff to finish with a very respectable class in 2016 and is off to a fantastic start to the 2017 version.
The job isn't done yet by any means, but Elston has exceeded my expectations so far as a recruiting coordinator and considering how widely criticized he was for much of last spring and summer, I think he deserves some recognition.
