Holden Staes to the portal...

Neither did I. Look....all this portal stuff incoming and outgoing is interesting for a New York minute but College Football is losing me....if I can't keep track of the players....if their is no loyalty etc. then why will I care? I don't think kids should be locked for life but the one year sit rule should be brought back. Schools make a commitment and they should expect a bare minimum from their student athletes as well. If we are running a semi pro league officially now that's all fine but just let me know in advance which players are on one year, two year, three year or four year contracts!

Understandable thoughts, but numbers on the roster could have been a problem. Only a minimal number of players have no eligibility left. Until all players declare their intentions tostay or move on, the number could be above 85 with the current 23 commits coming on board. Not a reaon to push players out, but honesty about next year expectations may be having some players considering their anticipated playing time and deciding to go elsewhere. Changing numbers at some positions more ofo a problem than at others.

This and the Tobias one really sucks for me. Young guys with talent. Those are the ones you want to keep

Notre Dame is losing several two deep guys that are considered top 25 overall transfer portal ranking players.

Notre Dame cannot take any steps forward without taking steps backwards and ultimately ending up right where they started

Zeke Correll 4-star, top 25 transfer portal player, NFL prospect with 30 starts is also leaving

This is happening to all other teams as well. This is the new era. These players think greener grass exists. They don’t understand that the grass is green where you water it.

They had all season to display their talent, and quite frankly, never did. Does it ever occur that some guys just won’t pan out? Merriweather was absolutely terrible and only started because the receiver depth was horrendous. Staes didn’t do anything extraordinary except a couple of good plays against shit competition. He was the #2 tight end because Raridon was out. He stayed #2 tight end when Raridon came back.

For all the people who say CFB is losing them and why should they care, if players are going to up and enter the portal and transfer to some other school.... Figure out a new reason to care. Because they're not going to rescind the rule just because somefans are put off by it.

Guys there are going to be a lot more. We are still dealing with COVID numbers on scholie. We have to be back at 85 next year.

TE is stacked. Don't be shocked if another goes

OL is stacked and four coming in. I'd expect some losses there as well, most likely more than one.

all transfers aren't a bad thing and the staff is talking through options with the players. Yes staes is a quality player, but we have 6-7 te's for next year counting staes. That is simply too many.

We have close to 20 ol counting alt and fisher who may go pro... But even 18 is too many. Also have a new coach with different philosophies.

ND will lose 1-2 more OL Probably 2 TE's To the portal. Probably a RB in the Spring. Maybe a QB too. And I'd say 1-2 of the LBs will enter as well.

Sure it is happening to other teams too. But it is harder for some schools, like ND, to bring in transfers.

How many UG transfers do we have in any sport? Not many. Most are graduate transfers ... ie, 1 year help, like Coan, Hartman, etc.

I think a lot of top teams are losing guys who can't crack the 2 deep. Notre Dame is losing players who are key starters/2 deep contributors.

No other program is losing three top 25 ranked transfer portal players

Potential Is just potential. If it doesn’t come to fruition, then that is all it was.
At least in the pro's you can trade your "potential" for the immediate. Then again I guess that is what it has become....some schools will develop players just to ship them off to those with the better story to spin or bigger wallet to open. The student athlete as ND has tried to know it and keep alive is done. Just sign them to contracts and pay them. NFL light....

Claypool, Boykin, D Daniels, Austin did nothing their first 2 years

You dont give up on talent. A lot of very good players take time to develop

Lol. Still beating that drum. Everyone left has good talent. The reality is you lose about ,15 passes and 300 yards and some potential.

That can easily be replaced.

Lol...chronic under achiever, plays small, injury history and oh yeah his backup is outplaying him...

Typical troll nonsense
I dont think he under achieved. He's smallish. He started a lot of games. He's just okay. That's what I think he was and is. He's not a great talent or superior skill guy. He got a lot out of normal type talent

By more freshman. Then you get injuries or lose more guys next off season and you can never get your room right or set. It matters

Especially when you lose talent

BTW, what were Golden Tates and Will Fullers numbers as frosh.

You are either ignorant or just stupid to say who cares when you lose talented players

Notre dame is also 9 scholarships over 85 and the fact is we have turned over oc, QB, wr, ol, coaches at least one the last two years. There are guys that were in past plans that won't have a path to playing time on the roster... They might be good or in two deep, but it's best for them to move on.

Lol. Funny how active you are here but have not commented on the 4 major decommitments from Prime in the last 5 days.

Also, Zeke was a major weakness at center this year against the bigger DLs.

Losing Staes does not impact the TE room

The issue is losing younger WRs

1. We need the space
2. He's been here two years, granted with apparently a poor coach, and has shown nothing other than the ability to run post vs one on one coverage.
3. I like tobias, but based on reports his situation could be a big distraction if he comes back and still doesn't develop. This is a case where it's in his best interest to move on and it does not hurt the school.
4. With him gone the wr room is at 9 bodies next year if no one else leaves.. of those 9, 5 will bring back multi game experience and would fill the likely two deep, barring a five star breakout.

We get it. You like tobias, and I'm sure he is a great kid and wish him the best.

The fact remains. His production can be replaced. His potential can be reached by others.

Braylon left too. Now rumor is Rico is leaving

The losses add up.

If all Tobias can do for the next 2 years is run posts and go routes, GOOD! We need that in our offense. If he improves a little bit each year at least we have a tall deep threat, YES! We have no size and no outside wrs other than Tobias and James who can stretch the field a little and get the safeties back.

If that is all they could do (and its not), GOOD we need that.

We are losing talented players that if you develop them they can really help.
