@Bodizephax I am stocked up on batteries, water(King Cobra), and food... I will see you on the other side brother and we can cheer on the Irish next weekend, even if I am floating in a raft to the Pub next Saturday.

Good luck if you are trying to ride out the storm. I rode out one at my beach house in NC. Once the bridge
Was closed , there was no changing ones mind !
The storm hit in the middle of the night ! First we heard the hurricane hit and it sounder like a freight train, and the house on its " Stilts " started to " Bend " and roll " I was sleeping , and my wife shook me awake !
I told her , "there is nothing we can do now, but pray, hope , and ride it out !
Luckily , when the dawn broke, the house was still standing ! We had no damage, but we were flooded in
For a few days , with a few feet of water under the house.
My flood insurance had become so high over the years , that we finally sold the place. I loved that
House and the beach, but I just got tired of the high maintainance and the astronomically high insurance
Premiums.

My son lives in Richmond/Rosenberg right next to he Brazos river.
He is also a survivalist at heart .
So far so good but if it slows down it could be a problem

Clouds are here but no real rain yet. We are 2 hours inland though so we should be ok, wind wont be too much I don't think but they are saying we will get 15-20 inches by Monday. Grocery Stores are cashed on water.

Drop a note after the worse is over and let us know all is well. Twenty inches is a hell of a lot of rain in a short amount of time, and hope your area, and the State in general, can manage this amount without damaging and life threatening flooding.

I cannot imagine that much rain. I have read that some of the coastal areas will get 35 inches. Massive flooding. They will need boats to get around.

I have a brother in Dallas and he says they aren't sweating it. Too far inland

Probably made a dozen trips to San Antonio in the late eighties for meetings with Data Point. Enjoyed everything about San Antonio, except playing golf in your humidity.

BTW, Homeland Security has advised those choosing to ride it out to write your name and social security number on your arm in permanent ink in order to help them identify your body.

Good Luck.

Don't forget the jalapeno flavored cheetos ! Good luck and Bon Voyage ! I survived Katrina ! You will survive Harvey !

Jeff McCullough the shark LB should have chosen ND over Texas. His wonderful UT stadium will be in ruins.

Sal, we disagree often but I will be hoping & praying that you & your family weather the storm and are safe as can be. Good luck!

Rockport mayor just said the same thing

Harvey is now a category 1 with 90 mph winds. That will still create wind damage but less.

The storm surge of up to 13 feet on the coast ( what does that mean?) and a whole lot of flooding from 35 or so inches of rain over the next week seems to be the biggest danger. 3 feet of rain! Apparently, high winds tend to get the headlines but the water damage might be the most dangerous part of a hurricane.

The problem would be if it's slow moving much like tropical storm Allison in 2001

The flooding not the winds were devastating because it was slow moving which is what they're saying this one will be.
I have family along the Brazos River 30 miles Southwest of Houston so I have to keep an eye on that.

My son was just ordered to leave his house long with all around the Brazos River in the Richmond - Rosenberg area.

The pictures of the flooding, mostly Houston I think, are really eye opening. There is already a lot of water damage to homes and personal property. And the rain continues. I am now reading 50 inches might be possible. The National Weather Service says it is unprecedented.

There are so many people in Houston you couldn't possibly evacuate them all. This is going to be a tough job for FEMA.

Im in Katy tx. Neighborhood known for good drainage and we have almost 30 inches of rain since Friday. Water is literally 5 feet from my garage door. Water on street is about 2 ft deep. It's crazy here. Wishing for the best the rain just doesn't stop.

Excellent High School football in Katy
Be safe out there

I'm in Houston. It's terrible - massive flooding. Many homes/cars are flooded. Many roads are impassable. There is a creek in front of my house that overflowed it's banks into my yard. Some water entered my garage but thankfully my house sits 40" up from the yard so no water in the house. It seems like when we think we are going to get a break - we get another wave of rain.

DIP....hopefully this link works and is helpful. Gives specific streets in Richmond/Rosenberg that are under evacuation orders. Also found metric of Bezos river that is projected to flood and timeline.

I really appreciate this their house is approximately 1000 yards from the Brazos River and they just opened up the reservoirs to keep them from bursting

My grandchildren evacuated Saturday night but my son stayed behind and try to sand bag what he could
We were going to head out there today and see what we could do to help but the governor doesn't want anybody else in there at this point

Frustrating as hell not being able to help, and not knowing specifics. In our thoughts!

Have your family in my prayers, DIP. Any news this morning?
Cell phone service is almost non-existent where he's at now

The last I spoke to him was 0400.
From what I understand they're going to be opening up the reservoirs to prevent them from bursting
This will no doubt ensure
that his house will be flooded

My daughter-in-law and grandchildren went up to the hunting lease in Franklin County

Thank you for the kind words and prayers most appreciated at this time

Woke up to subsiding water levels in Katy. If we stay. Hoping Harvey doesn't bring more rain.

Be safe out there watch out for the Gators

Yeah they are doing controlled releases east of 99 to keep levees from breaking causing massive flooding and evacuations. Im just west of Katy Mills Mall and it's gotten hairy a few times but no water in house so far. Area is under water though. Downtown Houston is completely underwater.

Any update from our Texas people? Sounds pretty miserable.

Just heard my son is one of the Marines leaving (quickly) for Texas to assist with recovery efforts.

The storm has moved east and the sun has come out so no more significant rain. Houston is a city of bayous and they all over flowed. Buffalo Bayou is just west of downtown and water went significantly over its banks (worst ever for Buffalo Bayou). 7,500 homeless people are sheltering at the downtown convention center and additional shelters have opened. One thing that has been great is seeing how everyone is helping each other. The NYC NBC guys saw a rescue effort of boats and trucks working together to get people to safe areas and asked what government agency was directing the effort. The volunteer said no agency was involved, just regular people working together to help those in need. .
