Notre Dame Run Offense vs. Stanford Run Defense: The Irish come in with the 6th ranked rushing offense that averages 290.5 yards per game with 6.6 yards per rush and 35 touchdowns. They face a Stanford run defense that is ranked 72nd in the nation allowing 171.7 yards per game with opponents averaging 4.7 yards per rush and 15 touchdowns. The Cardinal run defense has allowed all but one opponent to run for 100 or more yards in each game with the only team that didn't run for 100 yards be the 129th ranked rush offense in Washington St. that still managed 93 yards. Three of their eleven opponents ran for 200 or more yards with one going for over 300 yards. The Irish should be able to use multiple players to run the ball with and have the best game on the ground since the Wake Forest game.

Edge: Notre Dame

Notre Dame Pass Offense vs. Stanford Pass Defense: Notre Dame comes in with a pass offense that is ranked 110th in the nation averaging 168.1 yards per game with a completion rate of 51.9 percent, 16 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. The completion rate might seem low, but the Irish make pass plays count on completions for good yards. Stanford has a pass defense ranked 57th in the nation allowing 216.3 yards per game with opposing teams completing 64 percent of their passes, 13 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The Cardinal have allowed four of eleven teams to pass for 200 or more yards with three going for 300 or more yards, and one to have 400 or more with it being 480 yards. Most teams have been very accurate against Stanford as well with one opponent completing more than 80 percent of their passes. Stanford also has 55 tackles for loss,25 sacks, and 29 quarterback hurries. The Irish might have a good opportunity to have a more accurate game after this being an area of concern all season long.

Edge: Even

Stanford Run Offense vs. Notre Dame Run Defense: This has been the biggest strength for the Cardinal this season as they are the 25th ranked rush offense in the nation averaging 215.7 yards per game with 6.4 yards per rush and 26 rushing touchdowns. They are led by Bryce Love who has 195 attempts for 1,723 yards with 16 touchdowns and an 8.8 yard average. Love has played in ten of eleven games this season, missing one with injury. He has had injury issues all season and may or may not play in the game. The drop off after Love is huge with the next leading rusher being Cameron Scarlett who has 73 carries for 352 yards with a 4.8 yard average and 6 rushing touchdowns. Stanford has been successful at running the ball in nine of eleven games with the two games they weren't successful being the Oregon St. game when Bryce Love was out, and the Washington St. game which was the first game that Love came back. Notre Dame is ranked 51st in the nation against the run allowing 153.3 yards per game with opposing teams averaging 4 yards per rush and 8 touchdowns. Everything comes to down to if Bryce Love will play or not, and even if he does play, could be limited. If the Irish can shut down the run game of Stanford, then that will be a big difference.

Edge: Even

Stanford Pass Offense vs. Notre Dame Pass Defense: Stanford is ranked 97th in the nation in pass offense averaging 184.4 yards per game with a 57.9 completion rate, 14 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. In three of eleven games have they passed for 200 or more yards and in one they passed for more than 300 in the first game of the season. The Cardinal have used two quarterbacks during the season, with K.J. Costello playing more recently. K.J. Costello has completed 85 of 140 attempts for 993 yards with a completion rate of 60.7 percent, 5 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Costello also has 17 attempts for 100 yards with 3 touchdowns and a 5.9 yard average. The other quarterback, Keller Chryst has completed 78 of 144 passes for 962 yards with a 54.2 completion rate, 8 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. The Cardinal have many players capable catching the ball with the leading receiver being JJ Arcega-Whiteside with 37 receptions for 595 yards with 5 touchdowns and a 16.1 yard average. Trenton Irwin has 37 catches for 402 yards with 1 touchdown and a 10.9 yard average. Multiple tight ends get used with Kaden Smith having 16 receptions for 269 yards with a 16.8 yard average and 2 touchdowns. Connor Weddington has 25 catches for 190 yards with a 7.6 yard average. Dalton Schultz has 17 receptions for 181 yards with 2 touchdowns and a 10.7 yard average, while Colby Parkinson has just 9 receptions for 86 yards with 4 touchdowns and a 9.6 yard average. The Cardinal aren't strong at passing the ball, but do have many players to keep an eye out for with the tight ends always needing to be carefully covered. The Irish have a 60th ranked pass defense allowing 216.9 yards per game with opposing teams completing 56.2 percent of their passes, 17 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Regardless of who plays quarterback for the Cardinal, the Irish need to just try and shut them down just as much as shutting down the run game.

Edge: Notre Dame

Intangibles: The Irish are coming off a close win over Navy at home while Stanford is coming off a close win at home as well. Stanford has had a few games that they have won big in, but have won many close games, with a few close losses (and a blowout loss as well). Bryce Love is indeed the most important player for Stanford this season, and stopping him if he plays will be very important as Love is capable of making big plays on offense. The Irish need to complete passes frequently and continue to run the ball effectively as they have all season long. If Notre Dame can close out the regular season with a win, it would be big as they have lost many final regular season games and it would be the first win at Stanford in a long time.

Prediction: Notre Dame 30, Stanford 20
