Here are my thoughts.......
When it comes to our fan base and this board, whatever decision is made by Coach Kelly is going to fracture us. Half of us want Golson and the other wants Zaire. Shoot, I would be surprised if some did not desire Van Gorder to be the starter (half joking).
ND is blessed to have this problem--to have two viable QBs leading us is an awesome problem to have. I am a fan of both. I absolutely love the fire and leadership of Zaire. It seems like every time he runs a play something positive always happens. I love the competitiveness that he shows. That said, I still have to give the nod to Golson. In my opinion, and I have no real factual knowledge this is the case, he knows the offense more than Zaire. When Golson is on, he is on. However, when he is off, he is off so much it will stink up the entire place.
Because this is Golson's last year, and the difference between the two is not that much, I would start Golson. Let Golson take the reigns for his final season. Don't put him on a short leash because I don't think any QB would function properly knowing the person on the sideline will come in if you make one mistake.
As a fan base, and I know this is asking too much, we need to be very supportive of whatever decision is made. Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen. We are too fickle. If Golson starts, we will have folks on here just waiting and praying or Golson to make a mistake for fans to post "I told you Zaire should have started--fire Coach Kelly".
Let's unite and support the decision OUR head coach and staff make.
