Golson at FSU

No real surprise. Jumbo bailed on EG after sustaining a concussion knowing he had no elegibility left. He owes FSU nothing.

God knows he only went to FSU for football not school!

Didn't the link indicate he was dealing with the death of a very close family member? Perhaps suspension of judgment until all facts are in would be fair and prudent?

Sure. But, I ask you honestly, do you believe he would have 'skipped' if he was the starting QB?
I suppose it depends on what the relationship was and how close he was. It is clear that his transfer was self motivated and there were two parties to the "mercenary" transaction. It did not end up as hoped for by either I would guess.

So, what you are saying is 'maybe' I am wrong and 'maybe' I am right. Either way, he has to live with his decision.

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm also saying at this point neither one of us knows which it is.And yes he has to live with his decision as we all do every day.

I hoped against hope this kid would pan out but my gut feeling after he melted down and got yanked against UM in 2012. Was dead on balls accurate. Golson never possessed the intestinal fortitude, character or had the wherewithal to play the postion.

It was actually comical to see a couple of our resident FSU fan boys and ND Golson apologists/Kelly Haters come on here and regurgitate his statistics through 6 games at FSU. It really bordered on the delusional. Sure enough 4 quarters vs G Tech and 1 quarter vs NC State. His career was over. Meltdown City. New School, New System and New Coach but same old Golson. He has 0% chance of being drafted and 0% chance of playing in the NFL. He is a really poor QB. Especially from the neck up

If Stephen Morris or Jimmy Clausen can be a back up NFL QB then Golson can too. I thought he played well in the beginning of the year. Most NFL back ups committ multiple turnovers anyway so he will fit right in.

Golson has the chance to make good money in the CFL. A smaller chance to make a few $$$$ as a backup in the NFL after getting a FA contract.

He did ND well and played well at times. Most importantly, he will always be a Notre Dame fan and his time in Purgatory at FSU will easily be forgotten.

Possibly, but the thread title uses "gives up" suggesting a negative opinion of Golson. Does not seem to be reserving judgment.

The game is a week away so I can't see death of a family member keeping him out of game and he has slightly less than 0% chance to play in NFL
He was a good QB for ND (not great) but definitely not worth all the drama he brought.

This post says a great deal more about you than about the player in question. sorry!

I said a year ago that EG would never come close to getting drafted in the NFL. I will be right. Maybe he can play pro basketball in China.

He has a chance to be a star in the CFL and will go through life as a Notre Dame graduate. The misspent time at FSU will soon be forgotten.

I wouldn't call EG a quitter. He could have walked away after he was suspended for a year but he came back and got his degree. I was not privy to know what was said coming out of spring ball between BK, EG and MZ. Whatever it was EG decided to move on.
I wish him well in what ever he decides to pursue in his life.

Golson discovered that while "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" it still has to be mowed.

Golson is a result of the dark side at FSU where players are commodities to be used by the athletic department, covered for when they do wrong, manipulate their academics and thrown away when the player is used up.

I'm sure Golson was warned, but he will still have great memories of ND to remember .

Everett can sling that football around the field and make good throws. Given the talent pool in the NFL, I think he could be drafted in the very late rounds. He has enough upside to get a look from some NFL teams. He could also go the undrafted free agent route. You never know. I don't blame Everett for wanting to be with his family. I would do the same thing. I will not forget him tapping out and leaving for FSU after the spring game. It was a quitters move IMHO.

"Quitter" is a little harsh. He made the choice to do what was best for him. He saw he wasn't the starter but needed to be to showcase his skills in wanting a shot at the next level.

This is true! Golsons problem was he made the mistake of believing he would get a fair shot at FSU only to be thrown away once they realized ant ACC
Championship was out of the question.

Recruits should consider this !

For a little guy he sure can. However being small is a big problem he can't overcome. He could bring more to the table such as being a good running threat when a break down happens but he doesn't even do that.
He is 5'10" actual height. One of the reasons why having Kizer played has become such a breathe of fresh air......Kizer has real QB height. Malik doesn't. Golson doesn't.

Where are the short QB's having played QB in the NFL? They don't exist because you have to be some freakish exception to the rule to go against the odds being short and succeeding at that level.
Gilson could be a multi threat but is not even close.

I wish him no ill fate but I don't believe it will be in the NFL at any depth chart status.

He did the right thing by getting his degree from ND. He has little chance of playing in the NFL. He may have the arm talent but lacks the rest that is required to play at the next level.

I agree with what others have said here. He could be a pretty good QB in the CFL. If he can get a good coach to stop his unforced errors, he may do well there.

It's not his size that's the biggest problem. The problem is when he makes mistakes he appears to become uncoachable.

When he attempted to make plays he turned the ball over. When he protected the ball he was incapable of making plays. No thanks!!!! He should take his ND degree and use his ND connections and get a job in the private sector. He was unable to comprehend 11 on 11 football. I'm sure he'd be lost North of the Border too. To quote "Dirty Harry" A man's got to know his limitations."

You are really adding nothing to the discussion. Please stop.

Graduated from ND, lost his starting role, transferred to another school in hopes of reinventing himself, suffered a concussion, got beat out by a more talented and knowledgeable QB.

End of story...........drama is over, no big deal. Will he be drafted. Probably not but he can always try out as a free agent or in the Canadian League. No ill will, good luck in the future.

PS,
Too bad ND and FSU didn't end up in a bowl game together with Golson as QB for FSU. Oh well, it actually came close but didn't quite end that way. And now on to the bowls and may the best teams win. The winners will be on a spring board looking forward to a better year next year.

Sad that a kid who had potential totally blew it. Never quite received attitude adjustment he needed to make him a better qb.

Golson went to FSU for one reason, and that was to showcase his skills for the NFL, after deciding that he wouldn't be able to do this at ND splitting duties with Malik, or possibly riding the bench. Losing the starting QB job late in the season essentially ended his reason for being there. Given the way he handles failure or disappointment, no one should be surprised that he is done, and not traveling with the team. Sorry to read of a grandparent passing, but he would have been physically or at least mentally absent regardless.
