Lose one gain one. We have another player who has "committed" or as some say is strongly considering ND.

Welcome George! Seems to have great size / frame.

Tweet Share (30) George Takacs back in March, it seemed like the Irish would be a great fit for the 2018 Florida tight end given his positions and family ties to the state and the University.

Today, Takacs made it official, giving the Irish his verbal commitment following a weekend visit to South Bend.

The 6-foot-7, 235-pounder from Naples gives Notre Dame 12 pledges in the Class of 2018 and its first tight end. After signing a pair of the nation’s tight ends in the Class of 2017 in Brock Wright and Cole Kmet, it seems likely Takacs is the only player at the position the Irish will bring in this cycle.

The Gulf Coast High School standout chose Notre Dame over a host of others offers, including Florida, Georgia and Wisconsin, the other schools in his top four.

Takacs participated in last year’s Irish Invasion and returned to South Bend shortly after receiving his offer from Notre Dame. He was back on campus this weekend and this trip sewed up his recruitment.

Takacs’ mother attended graduate school at Notre Dame he still has family in the state.

A kid who is seriously focused on academics, Takacs is also a leader on his team, according to Gulf Coast head coach Pete Fominaya.

“When your best players are your hardest workers, that’s usually when you have the most success,” Fominaya told Irish Sports Daily. “George is such a great leader for us. He does everything in the right way. He’s really been such a model for the other students to follow.

“When they see he’s working really hard and getting all of this success, ‘I should work hard too.’ He’s been a real blessing to our program. He makes our job a lot easier as coaches.”

But it’s Takacs’ frame and abilities that first caught the attention of Notre Dame and other top programs.

“When you have a young man who is 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds and who runs the way he does, you’re talking about an elite prospect,” the coach said. “Not only is that young man skilled physically like he is, he’s also an incredibly hard worker and an incredibly detailed young man.

Fominaya says is “your traditional in-line tight end” who can present match=up problems for defenses.

“With the frame he has and the size he has, he can be a threat in the box to block, but he can also be a vertical threat down the field because he’s got such great leaping ability and, in my opinion, he’s got elite-level hands,” Fominaya told ISD.

“He’s really a matchup problem for any linebacker or safety who tries to cover him.”

I love his size combined with his mobility. Long arms will help with edge rushers and catch radius.

I am guessing that he will be 6'7 260 in a few years. Kyle Rudolph like with hopefully less injuries. Online TE as opposed to H Back. Wright has some competition now.

P.S. Just watched his film. He is not as mobile as I thought yet. Hopefully he improves there a bit as a senior. He likes to block I thought and he catches the ball easily.

This is Great news ! Last time we had a great tight end (Tyler Eifert) we played Alabama for the National Championship ! Welcome George ! Go Irish !!!!!!!!

Nice addition. I hope he is well utilized once he signs, practices, develops, and grows into his frame.

W/ inexperience at qb this year, the TE position should get a lot of targets. When in doubt, the TE is usually open. The biggest badass on the field, imho. Have to outrun skilled players on the other side to get open & are asked to carry their load blocking and chipping. Best overall athlete on the field considering the workload. I love being TE U!

When I was watching the film I did think there was a "growing into his frame" issue. He is just really tall for football at his age. Coordination accelerates after the growth spurt. Well, unless you are freakish like Saddiq Bey in basketball who went from 5'9 to 6'7 in 3 years and has a lot of bounce.

agree; watching his vids, he is very agile and at times even graceful, and then at times he looks like he is a bit awkward with his frame. He catches well and displays enough quickness to be an asset in the short passing game. As he matures physically he might extend his potential reception range.
Just a note here, in days before the kids had so many options and decision making power, that he is the kind of guy that might come in as a TE and wind up an OL or a LB. In fact this kid is physically a bit like McGlinchy.

Yep. LT or RT. Kind of like Hayes who committed to Mich.

I agree if you're just watching his junior film.

But if you look at what he did in camps this summer, he's continued to show improvement in that area. I know they're "no pads" events, and thus not ideal, but they're still good for showing coordination, fluidity, etc.

Takacs actually won the WR MVP at one of the Rivals camps in Florida this summer, and was apparently one of the better TEs at the Rivals 5* event...before suffering a (relatively minor) leg injury that forced him to sit out.

I don't think he's necessary on the Wright/Kmet level as a prospect (Top100 player), due largely to being a somewhat under-developed prospect at this point in his career.....but he could definitely be a Top200 type prospect with a lot of upside.

A 2-year TE haul of Wright, Kmet, and Takacs should keep that position talented, versatile, and deep moving forward

Good info. Sounds like nice coordination trajectory.

assuming only Recruitniks read such threads, I wonder that there is no or little mention here re the decommittment of Matt Corral, 5 * QB, from USC?

I mention this because there is a lot of criticism in the past directed to SC's football program being lax or tolerant.
This looks like SC being pro-active in avoiding any character questions. The discussion is about possible off field incidents.
Since there is no mention of any legal involvements, or other 'newsworthy' report, it would seem SC is monitoring it's targets and accountability now has real consequence.

Was his mobility better in rhe recent opening Video?

I like the Niklas comparison. He strikes me as an in line TE lining up next to Mabry as the the RT. When the opponent leaves him alone, he will hurt them in rhe receiving game.

He looked great in the Opening video.
He caught every pass with his hands.
He also caught two passes on long go routes that were over his head by simply extending his arms & catching with his fingers.
