I wouldn't call myself a superstitious guy. But I do have a few minor quirks for ND games only. Given the magnitude of the Cotton Bowl, I thought I'd share mine and see what other superstitions people will be following, from minor to insane! We need every bit of good juju we can get!
1) Lucky Shirt
Like a lot of ND families, I have quite the ND selection. Every year, I start the first game with a fresh t-shirt. That shirt will be worn every gameday until we lose. (Of course I wash it!). This year, I'm still rocking my green shirt from the "Greenout" Michigan win!
2) Beverage
I usually tend to buy similar beer for gameday. This year has been heavily slanted toward 3 Floyds for gamedays. Alpha King, Lazersnake and Robert the Bruce are favs. I'll be putting down a couple Saturday for sure! Hey, it's brewed in Indiana!
3) Sign
I have a PLACT sign on my basement stairway with a hand crafted national championship board sign above it that is almost a perfect replica of the actual stadium sign. Of course I slap the sign every time I go up and down the stairs. That's a given for gameday when we watch in the basement.
4) Chair
So it's the playoffs, so I'm gonna go bold! I have never had a lucky chair. Heck, I stand a LOT when I watch at home! For Christmas this year, my beautiful wife got me a double wooden bench salvaged from the old ND Stadium before the renovations. You know, the old traditional redwood benches that offered a 50% chance of getting a splinter in your butt. Of course the bookstore sells them! I'm class of '97, but I grew up near South Bend. So I've been to most of the most legendary games of the 80's and 90's. In every big win at the stadium, I was sitting on a wooden bench. I think that is a good incentive to bring back that mojo! I happened to get seats 1 and 2, so I'll firmly plant myself on seat 1 while watching the game!
