Game Ball goes to...

So many to go around.

Jagsuh and Baker for coming in as backups that didn't play all year
Schrauth for getting that fumble recovery
Angeli for that drive
Love for his inability to be denied
Gray for the pick
Greathouse for huge catches
Gray for that pick again... lol.
Jeter for his clutch kicks

Who am I missing???
Williams on that first drive in the 3rd quarter. He set the tone. Big plays.

Marcus Freeeman. He turned around the team at halftime. ND was getting dominated in the first half but he got the team to do a 180 in the second half. He even got his coordinators to coach better too..

I’m not and wasn’t mad at the first pick. I just accepted it. The second pick was more on Leonard but that DE also made a nice catch on his fingertips.

I’m not sure what the coaches would say about the first pick though.

RL's 3rd down and 1 run late...I mean that swings the game. Instead of us punting we keep on driving. You could see the Penn State QB wincing on the sidelines..he knew that was huge.
But that late interception sealed it. They had less time so PSU had to get aggressive.
Herbie with a great call "you can never throw a leaner over the middle."
Maybe the PSU OC being more aggressive than Franklin? PSU fans claim Franklin is too conservative; but when you get too aggressive this can happen.

It’s gotta be Greathouse. Watching his high school tape, I thought he was a tad slow but a marvellous route runner. I still don’t think he’s a burner, but he’s plenty fast and before the game, I figured he would get lots of one on one chances with attention focused on Faison and our backs.

Their defence did not respect our receiving core and it made them pay. Greathouse looks like a guy who could go for 100 a game if we had Angeli starting. I still don’t think he’s a Jeremiah Smith, but I would pray for any nickel thinking they can cover him out of the slot. Between our two tight ends and Fasion, Greathouse, we are developing some legit threats at receiver. It would be nice for one wideout to show out in the title… Colzie, Thomas, Harrison…

Also shoutout to Christian Gray. Dude was lockdown all year outside of the USC, IU and UGA game. Dude also never put his head down, keeps battling and always makes a play when we need it. Kids a damn good cornerback.

Greathouse beat the piss out of that corner on his TD catch as well. The corner didn’t just fall down.

No. Did he help Irish win? Yeah. But 2 picks put the Irish in very difficult situations and PSU got 10 points off of them.
RL plays with Coach Freeman's mentality -- forget the last play and focus on this play -- yea, he had 2 picks, but he kept battling and fighting -- this whole team does that -

Did anyone see what Allar did? These defenses are damn good. Their pass rush was ferocious. We struggled to block them.

All heart and guts from RL. 250 plus yards 2 tds made big plays in the 4th.
I genuinely think that if it's close late.....Leonard can will us to victory in the 4th.

He, the OL, and run game take over late.

I think he mainly just fell down. It was a pretty standard little move to put on a DB. But you know what? TD either way. Let's not get carried away now, we got one more game, let's pump the breaks a little bit on the mythologizing. After we beat tOSU, then we can go nuts with all that stuff.

I had just watched the play multiple times before posting that. Perhaps the move was nothing spectacular, but it’s still true that the corner was beaten badly. He didn’t just fall down.

Schrauth may have saved the game.

Yeah he did. He just fell down. I mean it was a good little juke, but like 49 times out of 50 maybe?, that doesn't happen. In any case, we sure needed to make a play and we got one.

If it is a player, interestingly I have to go with Riley Leonard. A Tale of 2 QBs: the worst of times in the 1st half, the good enough times in the 2nd half.

RL made some bad plays all game. But he also in the context of a slugfest, with mistakes by both ND and PSU, made the most clutch plays when it counted. Yeah he threw 2 INTs. But he also made passes and ran when it counted.

Both defenses made both offenses struggle. But ND ground it out. Led by a RL who came in from being almost knocked out, doing it a bit more than his equally gritty teammates.

Which brings me to my main point...I'd give the game ball to Marcus Freeman. ND would have folded and lost this game in the past. He said something at halftime to inspire the kind of fight and grit displayed by all the players, especially an erratic but game effective RL.

PS: not to pile on, but I have issues with Denbrock.

Underrated take. If PSU recovers that and scores to go up 13 or 17, I’m not sure how this team gets back in the game.

True. The game is made up in moments. But it goes both ways...what if the refs didn't call PI on that interception? Or if they called a blatant holding on PSU to keep a drive going?
