From TOS Re: McGlinchey

no...he said he expects to.

But, if his rating comes back 1st round, what do you think he should do?
if Nelson gets a 1st round projection, same thing.

Btw: what did Fuller say? Niklas? It is far too early to put any weight on these statements.

If ND could return the line intact, it would be huge.

IMHO, anyone who is projected first round should go. Too many risks in not going.

It all depends what the young man wants to do with his education, and is he mentally and physically ready for the NFL. I hope all the seniors and 5th year seniors stay because we'll need them next year. Finish the mission and grow the program. I'm a fan of ND and I could care less about the NFL.
It's not about the NFL, it's about what's in the kid's best interests.

Well, McGlinchey has concluded that it's in his best interest to come back, believing he still has a lot to learn. It sure as hell is in ND's best interest. McGlinchey and Nelson have hardly dominated the opposition, and I think it is in both players' interest to come back next year in terms of being NFL ready. If money is the only criteria, then of course you go if a first rounder. McGlinchey's comments and perspective on this are refreshing.

IF if Nelson returns, that help the 'new' guy whoever that is. There would be experience at the LG spot.
The NFL does not usually go 1st rd. with G's but ND had Martin go 1st round as a projected G. If Nelson looks like a lock for the 1st or 2nd round, he really should give the draft serious thought. 1game, 1play can end the dream.

well, the 1st thing you build is an OL. OL is size, talent (athleticism), coaching, intelligence and continuity.
continuity is not a new line every season.

We've recruited well on the OL for the last several years. This is a win win for ND. If the players stay, ND will return top linemen. If they go 1st round, Harry's legend grows as a guy that can put players in the NFL which will attract top recruits. The best of both worlds is they stay and then go first round.

His performance by end of year will dictate whether he comes back or not. Also, Fifth year graduate studies are no cake walk at ND either. So far he has not performed up to expectations.

Thought offensive line with McGlinchey ,Nelson, Mustipher, Bars ,etc would be the strength of this team . Seems like a lot of talent . I don' t know if it's the play calling , the opposing teams know what's coming and stack the line on running plays . Kelly doesn't keep the opponents off balance with the play calling ,too predictable . Or our offensive is not that good and as mentioned above ,McGlinchey and Nelson ( 5-star) are not having All American type year

No, you're wrong. As usual.

He simply said he's going to return to Notre Dame next year, regardless of projections. It's what she wants to do, and what he feels is best for his development. (And he's probably right)

For the record, I fully expect
Nelson to do the same thing

It's not about the NFL, it's about what's in the kid's best interests.

Zack Martin came back for his 5th year and now he is a probowler and rich as hell. Many times Olineman come back because they last a lot longer in the NFL. If they get hurt they can still come back and not lose much.
I trust Mikes word. He is coming back no matter what the projections. His words not mine.

True.
Senior left tackle Mike McGlinchey said on Wednesday that he intends to return to Notre Dame for his final season of eligibility in 2017.

"It's going to be a five-year process," McGlinchey said. "I have (at least) 19 games left here, and that's what I fully intend to take on. I have a lot left to learn. I'm not ready to go anywhere. I have the best in the business coaching me each and every day, and it's to my benefit to just stay here and learn from him, and there's nothing that I can do to want to change that.

"I have no intention of wanting to change that. I haven't played -- I mean I've played a lot of football so far, but I have a lot left to accomplish, and I know I'm not going to put myself in a position to go somewhere when I'm not fully ready to. I'm fully confident that I will be ready at some point, but I don't think it'll be after this season."

But what about all the 2017 mock drafts that project McGlinchey as a first round pick?

"I don't really pay attention to all that," McGlinchey said. "It's not going to come down to a projection for me. It's going to come down to a mindset and a look in the mirror at whether or not I am ready to go, and based off of what I'm feeling now, I'm pretty confident that I'll be back here for a fifth year.

"It's not any major decision or ground-breaking decision. I fully intended to (stay for five years) when I first got to college. And like I said, I have so much left to learn here, and it's not going to come down to projections or potential money that I can make. Because if I'm good enough at the point when I feel ready to do it, I'll do it. And those projections will become reality at some point when it's my time to be ready to do that."

If McGlinchey and junior quarterback DeShone Kizer both return, which is far from a certainty, Notre Dame could realistically return all 11 of its starters on offense.

The Philadelphia native has started 19 career games at Notre Dame, more than any other Irish offensive player.

Read the rest if the article.

"It's about projections. I'm sure I'm returning. That's always been my plan"

Those are his words.

Draft projection won't matter, he'll be NDs LT next year.

Sorry little buddy.

do make much of a living being a 'jackass'?

after the season, after having sat down with his parents and advisors, after getting his draft projections, after he considers his season and his readiness only then will what he 'thinks' really be something to be considered as reliable.
That interview was not a definate one way or the other, it left a lot of wiggle room.

If you kept reading the thread, rather than be your jackass self, that was the thinking put by posters responding.

But shoot from the hip...your not going to hit anything with your head up your butt anyway.

lol. No, that's not the case.

The decision is already made and he noted specifically that projections don't matter matter to him or his family in amiing that decision...and that's with knowing that a high round (or even 1st) is a possibility.

Sorry that you being completely and totoallt wrong, and then getting called for being the moron that you are, upsets you so much.

In the future, try not to be so stupid.

In the future, try not to be so stupid with your terrible predictions.

Until he starts class next season, I will be on the side that says he will leave if he gets a first round projection. Returning and risking injury that maybe career ending should be on the top of his mind. A game against Navy, where he could suffer a blown knee from a cut block with similar severity as Jaylon Smith could end his aspirations of an NFL career.

He plays Oline, he won't get cut blocked. Football is a game of contact. He could get hurt in the nfl game 1 and not get paid if he gets released those contracts aren't guaranteed. Even if he does get hurt he can't put an insurance policy out if he falls if he's a projected 1st rounder. If he stays another year he could be a top 5 pick instead of coming out a year early and being a late 1st rounder. Now that's a lot of difference money wise.

if he gets 1st or 2nd rd projections and returns to college football, as a GM that might be a red flag to me. Especially since he would not be returning to 'win' anything special.

Getting cut blocked by a Navy OL is about as likely to be a problem for McGlinchey as Taylor Decker deciding he was to hobble 2 ND players, leaving the Lions, coming back to play DE for Navy and blasting McGlinchey's knee.

Just saying.

That would mean you'd toss red flags on Andrew Luck, Zack Martin, and Ronnie Stanley.

I don't think you'd make it very long as a GM...

He says he will be back for his 5th year in 2017.

I will believe that in January 2017 when the NFL deadline has passed and he is still on the roster. I think we let him finish this season out even before thinking about next year.
