Freeman Rules Out Transfer QB

As a backup for this year? Or was the question phrased for the 2024 season?

I figured his answer would be the same for both at this point. Can’t risk more QBs transferring out.

Minchey and Angeli need to worry more about Carr than a transfer for 24.
You have to be really special in todays era to start a freshman at QB for a blue chip school.

Even many of the elite guys like Trevor Lawrence didn’t start the opener. Maybe we’ll see Carr start to mix in early but I’ll be truly flabbergasted if he’s starting @A&M.

If history is repeating itself, we’re much more comfortable going into the transfer portal than starting a freshman. We haven’t since 2010.

In 2024, you have a 3-star senior and a 4-star sophomore. I think MF must use 2023 to get extended time for those two. Not victory formation, the entire fourth quarter when you're up 28. If they look the part in real games, no need to bring in a xfer. If they look lost, you would be stupid not to go after a blue chip proven QB. It killed you in 22. Who cares if one of those 2 xfer if you're banking on CJ.

I agree with you here. I do have a question though.

Just for fun, let’s say Minchey looks pretty solid in mop up duty this year. Certainly good enough to start in 2024. But, there’s a blue chip transfer who we could get, and for that one year, he would technically be better than Minchey, but Minchey is younger, so longer runway.

Who do you go for? How much better does the 1 year player need to be to go the transfer route? If they’re close in production you should always go younger, but if you go with the transfer you’re potentially opening up the door for the younger recruit to leave.

Modern day dilemmas I guess.

That’ll be a tough scenario. No idea what MF would decide to do.

Minchey would begin his career @A&M. Won’t be easy.

Likely a new offensive line too…..

Why would you ask about 2024 in July?

IMO Steve Angeli will have first crack at mop up duty.
