Interesting article on college football as a whole Seems that average scoring has gone up in each of the last 15 years. Appears NDs defense is not the only one giving up points.

The game has evolved (rules, athleticism, etc.), but you cannot understate the importance of a good defense when compared to other teams around the country.

I think we need to give BVG a chance with a healthy defense to truly evaluate him.

BVG's defense was great against Texas and Georgia Tech and Clemson (for much of the game) and improved over 2014.
I expect a big improvement from BVG's defense in year three just like Bob Diaco.

Well, at this point we don't have any choice but to give BVG a chance to prove what he can do with a healthy defense. Personally, I was hoping for a change, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be proven very wrong. No point arguing scheme versus talent versus injuries versus fundamentals, etc... as this upcoming season will provide a three year body of work and fair conclusions. Hoping like hell we see an active instinctive aggressive fundamentally sound dominant defense this season.
