F#ck you fair-weather fans for giving up on the team

Denbrock is a moron who should be fired. He is too old and set in his ways. He gave the game to OSU. If it weren't for the OSU penalties it would have been a blowout. Not letting Love run the ball or Price for that matter is the act of a very stupid person. Unless he was betting on OSU then it makes sense.

He also ran the crap out of Leonard on Drive 1 and got ND to a 7-0 lead. 23 points and Jeter missed a gimme. This with a lot of issues on the OL.

I think he did a great job this year.

He was terrible all year. But Golden needs some blame. I know the D was banged up and undermanned but that’s why they needed an A + gameplan. Instead they played soft out the gate letting osu get comfortable and dictate the game. Really disappointed in their preparation.

Agree about the soft part. But Cross and Hinish weren't big enough to penetrate their line and Rubio had a quiet game.

I'm not sure what the fanbase expected out of this game. The experts in Vegas had ND an underdog by more than a touchdown. The Irish were not at full strength on the Oline, Dline and secondary with the injuries they suffered. OSU was healthy by all accounts and had more talent out there than ND. And while I don't give a coaching edge to Day over Freeman, I think Chip Kelly is a better play caller than Denbrock and Knowles a better DC than Golden. ND had a great year considering what happened to them against NIU. They notched 14 wins and beat 2 Big 10 teams and the SEC champ on the way to the title game. Ohio State found another gear after Michigan beat them. If you saw what OSU did to Tennessee, Oregon, and Texas, you knew in your mind, but probably not your heart, that Ohio State was the better team and it would take extraordinary circumstances to beat them. And you know what, ND had a shot at tying that game up late. They couldn't finish. A few horses short. The Irish will be back.

Great post !

Great post !
Thanks. I wanted the Irish to win as much as anyone and if the oddsmakers had made this game a pick-em or had ND favored and ND lost this game then I'd say fire away, but ND was more than a TD underdog and there was a reason for that. The biggest reason was OSU had more talent on the field than ND did and more often than not, that's what decides football games or any sports for that matter. I think ND gave everything they had and that effort was almost enough to tie up that game late in the fourth quarter. You wonder what a healthy Morrison does for the Irish in the secondary or a healthy Mills on the Dline. We'll never know but my guess is we probably win that game.

Agree with your post, except maybe Golden is better than Knowles. OSU had the better players, healthier team and didn’t beat themselves tonight. Freeman had ND playing above their pay grade since around mid-season. Too bad they fell a game short tonight. GA had far more talent than ND as well and they’ll have way more draft picks than ND.

I’d add one additional element, I think Ohio State’s offensive and defensive coordinators did a very good job

And not scoring after the turnover certainly hurt
I thought the first down play call was terrible, but it’s always easy to second-guess

I think a healthy Notre Dame wins, but they were snake bit with injuries

But it was a great season and they were only one of two survivors standing at the end

Notre Dame didn’t play above their pay grade, they played to their potential

I agree with all of this until you get to the end.

Its the "almost tied game" "few horses short" comments that really get to me.

At some point ND fans are going to have to WAKE THE F#*() UP AND SAY IT OUT LOUD / ACKNOWLEDGE REALITY that ND is way more than a few horses short. They are like 3-20 in their biggest games with the most on the line over the last 25 years and have been outscored in those games by at least a -200 point differential.

What is the constant in all of this performance ? (subpar talent during Kelly & Freeman years and subpar coaching during the Weis era)

OSU went up 28-7 or 31-7 at one point and then basically turned their entire game into a clock killing gameplan (almost like garbage time with starters at the early 3rd quarter mark) the horses were called off, they started killing clock on offense and playing loose/prevent coverage to keep the clock moving and to secure the win. That is the only reason why it ended up being a 2 possession game instead of a 4 or 5 possession game. It wasn't competitive.

Explain how ND if you were running the show would be more competitive?

OSU threw 6 of 21 times after they went ahead by 31-7. 30%. So you are full of shit.

This is the best team we as fans have seen since the Holtz era.

Beat 3 top 10 teams
Won 2 major bowl games
beat the SEC champion
Didn't get blown out in the National Championship game

This team accomplished a lot and exorcized some long standing demons in the process, like the major bowl win drought, and getting embarrassed on the big stage.
